브레이크뉴스 최애리 기자= 러닝화 브랜드 호카(HOKA) 국내 총판사 조이웍스의 조성환 대표이사가 폭행 논란과 관련해 공식 사과하고 대표이사직에서 사퇴했다.
조 대표는 7일 본인 명의의 사과문을 통해 “저의 부적절한 행동으로 많은 분들께 큰 분노와 실망을 드린 점에 대해 고개 숙여 진심으로 사과드린다”며 “이번 사안은 전적으로 저 개인의 잘못이며 어떠한 이유로도 정당화될 수 없는 불찰”이라고 밝혔다.
조 대표는 “물리력 행사가 정당화될 수 없다는 점을 알면서도 순간의 감정을 추스르지 못해 돌이킬 수 없는 잘못을 저질렀다”며 “저의 경솔한 행동으로 상처를 입으신 분들께 깊이 사과드린다”고 말했다.
이어 이번 사태의 책임을 지고 대표이사직에서 사퇴하며 경영 일선에서도 물러나겠다는 뜻을 밝혔다.
다만 조 대표의 사퇴와 별개로 해당 사안에 대한 경찰 수사는 계속 진행 중이다. 서울 성동경찰서는 지난해 12월 조성환 전 대표가 하청업체 관계자들로부터 폭행을 당했다는 취지의 고소장을 접수했다.
앞서 하청업체 대표와 직원 등 2명은 조 전 대표를 상대로 상해 및 강요 혐의로 고소장을 제출했으며, 경찰은 이들에 대한 고소인 조사를 마친 상태다. 경찰은 조만간 조 전 대표를 불러 사실관계를 조사할 방침이다.

한편 조 전 대표는 지난달 서울 성동구의 한 폐건물에서 하청업체 대표와 직원을 불러 폭행과 폭언을 했다는 의혹을 받고 있다. 피해자들은 갈비뼈 골절과 뇌진탕 증세 등을 진단받은 것으로 알려졌다.
이에 대해 조 전 대표 측은 피해자들이 허위 사실을 유포했고 이를 경고하는 과정에서 쌍방 간 물리적 충돌이 발생했다는 주장을 했다. 그러면서 폭행 의혹과 피해를 주장한 하청업체 관계자들을 상대로 맞고소한 상태다.
조 전 대표 측은 맞고소 취하 여부와 관련해 “현재로서는 구체적인 내용에 대해 언급하기 어렵다”고 전했다.
