[브레이크뉴스=황민성 기자] 사천시립도서관이 2024년 개관 이후 누적 방문객 30만 명을 돌파하며, 명실상부한 지역 대표 문화 랜드마크로 자리매김하고 있다.
30만 명이 선택한 숫자로 증명된 사천시립도서관은 도시의 문화 지도를 바꾸면서 사천의 일상에 변화가 일어나고 있다.
특히, 2025년 한 해에만 약 20만 명이 도서관을 찾으며, 안정적인 운영과 시민 신뢰를 동시에 입증했다.
현재 도서관은 4만 1천여 권의 장서를 보유하고 있으며, 누적 대출 권수는 13만 권, 누적 대출자 수는 7만 2천 명에 달한다.
이는 단순한 독서 공간을 넘어 시민의 일상 속에 독서문화가 깊이 스며들고 있음을 보여주는 지표다.
독서·문화행사 참여 시민도 누적 2만 명을 넘어섰다.

사천시립도서관은 시민 의견을 반영한 운영 개선에도 속도를 내고 있다.
지난해 11월부터 주말 운영시간을 기존 오후 6시에서 오후 8시까지 확대해, 직장인과 가족 단위 이용자의 접근성을 높였다.
그 결과 하루 평균 이용자 수는 약 700명에 이르며, 도서관은 '언제든 찾을 수 있는 공간'으로 자리 잡고 있다.
박동식 시장은 "그간의 안정적인 운영 성과를 바탕으로 이제는 사천시만의 정체성을 담은 독창적인 문화 콘텐츠를 본격적으로 강화할 시점"이라며 "2026년 북 페스티벌은 별빛 아래에서 책과 우주를 동시에 만나는 특별한 경험을 시민들께 선사하게 될 것"이라고 밝혔다.
