현재 교육부는 2025년 5세 유아를 시작으로 2026년에는 4~5세 유아까지 월 7만 원의 필요경비를 지원할 예정이다. 포천시는 이러한 국가 정책의 취지를 한 단계 앞서 실현하기 위해 자체 예산을 투입, 지원 사각지대에 놓일 수 있는 3세 유아까지 혜택 범위를 넓히기로 결정했다.
지원 항목인 ‘필요경비’는 학부모가 어린이집에 직접 납부해 온 입학준비금(상해보험료, 피복류 구입비), 특별활동비, 현장학습비, 차량운행비, 행사비, 급식비 등을 포함한다. 이번 지원을 통해 사실상 3세부터 5세까지 ‘단계적 무상보육’의 실효성을 높일 수 있게 됐다.
