의정부시 김동근 시장은 지난 1월 9일 상권진흥센터를 비롯해 행복로, 전통시장, 의정부역 지하도상가 등 관내 주요 상권을 방문해 민생 현장을 점검하고 상인들과 소통하는 시간을 가졌다고 밝혔다.
이날 현장 간담회에는 관내 주요 상인회 회원 20여 명이 참석했다. 김동근 시장은 이 자리에서 올해 본격적으로 추진되는 ‘행복로 보행친화거리 조성사업’과 ‘2026년 소상공인 지원사업’의 주요 내용을 공유하고, 현장의 애로사항을 세심하게 청취했다.
간담회 이후 김 시장은 제일시장과 의정부시장, 행복로 일대, 의정부역 지하도상가를 직접 도보로 이동하며 현장을 점검했다. 특히 지하도상가 종합상황실을 방문해 안전사고 예방을 위한 운영 현황을 확인하고, 환경개선사업이 완료된 구간의 시설 상태를 꼼꼼히 살폈다.
시는 올해 도비를 포함해 약 5억 원의 예산을 투입, 오는 4월부터 ‘전통시장 시설현대화 사업’을 추진한다. 이를 통해 ▲천장 개폐기 보수 ▲전동 창호 교체 ▲누수 보강 등 노후 시설을 정비하여 시민들이 더 안전하고 편리하게 전통시장을 이용할 수 있도록 환경을 개선할 계획이다.
