이재명 대통령이 현재 중·일 갈등 관련해 "중·일 간 문제지 한국이 깊이 관여·개입할 문제가 아니다"고 밝혔다.
이 대통령은 방일에 앞서 12일 공개된 일 'NHK' 인터뷰에서 "시진핑 중국 국가주석은 대만 문제 관련 일본 측 입장에 매우 안 좋은 생각을 갖고 있는 건 분명하다"며 이같이 말했다.
이 대통령은 13일 1박 2일 일정으로 다카이치 사나에 일본 총리 고향이자 지역구 나라현을 방문하는 가운데 이날 다카이치 총리와 한·일 정상회담을 갖는다. 양 정상 간 이번 회동은 다카이치 총리 취임 이후 지난 2025년 10월 경주 APEC(아시아태평양경제협력체)·동년 11월 남아프리카공화국 요하네스버그 G20(주요 20개국)에 이어 네 번째다.
그러면서 "동북아시아 평화·안정 측면서 중·일 간 대립·대결은 바람직하지 않기에 양국이 대화를 통해 원만히 잘 해소하길 기다린다"고 했다.
또 일·북 관계에 대해선 "일·북 관계가 대화·소통하고 필요 시 수교 관계로 발전하는 게 좋다 생각한다"며 "그게 가능토록 상황 조성 역할을 해나갈 생각이고, 그 측면서 보면 일본이 해결해야 할 과제 예를 들어 납북자 문제 같은 것들이 있다"고 했다.
이어 "(일·북은) 동북아시아 평화·안정 측면서 정말 가까운 이웃"이라며 "원만한 관계로 회복되는 게 한반도 평화 측면서 바람직하다 생각하며 적극 지지·지원하겠다"고 했다.
더불어 후쿠시마산 수산물 금지 조치 관련해선 "적극 논의해가야 할 의제라 생각한다"며 "단기적으로 어렵겠으나 CPTPP(포괄·점진적 환태평양경제동반자협정) 가입을 위한 일본 협조를 얻어내기 위해 중요 의제"라고 밝혔다.
이 대통령은 "일 수산물 수입 문제가 또 하나의 중요 의제가 될 가능성이 많다"면서도 "장기적으로 해결해야 될 문제인데 지금 현재 상태론 대한민국 국민들 정서·신뢰 문제를 해결해야 한다"고 했다.
또 "과거를 직시는 하되 협력할 부분은 협력하면서 서로 손잡고 미래로 함께 나아가자는 게 일본 국민들께도 꼭 드리고 싶은 말씀"이라며 "정치적 이유로 서로 충돌하는 게 양국 국민의 정당한 이익·미래를 해치는 게 아니냐는 생각을 하게 된다"고 했다.
그러면서 다카이치 총리에 대해선 "대한민국과의 관계에서 보수적 입장을 취한다 알았는데 만나본 바에 의하면 매우 인간적이고 열정 넘치는 분이었다"며 "저도 특별한 정치적 인연·후광 없이 이 자리에 왔는데 다카이치 총리도 자수성가로 정치적 성공을 한 분이라 공감되는 부분이 많다"고 했다.
'CPTPP'는 일·캐나다·호주 등 12개국이 참여하는 메가 FTA(자유무역협정)로 TPP(환태평양경제동반자협정)가 도널드 트럼프 제1기 행정부 때인 지난 2017년 미국 탈퇴로 동력을 잃자 일본 등이 중심 돼 출범시켰다. 과거 정부도 CPTPP 가입을 검토한 적 있으나 당시 일본서 제기된 신중론에 진전되지 않았다.
