“아파트 단지에 공부방이?”... 양주시, ‘공공임대형 자기주도학습센터’ 조성 박차

양주시가 아파트 단지 내 유휴공간을 활용해 사교육비 부담을 덜어주는 새로운 공공교육 모델을 선보인다.

시는 지난 12일 시청 시장실에서 LH(한국토지주택공사) 경기북부지역본부, 동두천양주교육지원청과 ‘양주고읍 LH14단지 자기주도학습센터’ 구축 및 운영을 위한 업무협약을 체결했다고 밝혔다.

이번 협약은 아파트 내 비어있는 어린이집 공간을 리모델링하여 학생들에게는 쾌적한 학습 공간을, 주민들에게는 문화 커뮤니티 공간을 제공하는 ‘주거·교육 결합형’ 상생 모델이다. 특히 사업 추진 과정에서 입주민 설명회와 투표를 거치는 등 주민들과의 적극적인 소통을 통해 동의를 이끌어냈다는 점에서 의미가 크다.

새롭게 조성될 학습센터는 낮 시간에는 주민들의 소통 공간으로 활용되며, 방과 후에는 학생들의 자기주도학습 공간으로 변신한다. 오는 2월 리모델링에 착수해 3월 정식 개소할 예정이며, EBS 소속 학습 코디네이터가 상주해 학생별 맞춤형 밀착 관리와 전문 멘토링 프로그램을 제공할 계획이다.

양주시 관계자는 “단지 내 유휴공간을 무상으로 제공해 준 LH 경기북부본부에 감사드린다”며 “교육지원청과의 긴밀한 협력을 통해 학부모들의 사교육 걱정을 덜어주는 ‘교육 도시 양주’를 만들어 나가는 데 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
