이재명 대통령이 21일 미국의 한국에 대한 반도체 100% 관세 부과 관련해 " ‘통상 나오는 얘기"라며 "대만보다 불리하지 않게 관세 협상을 하겠다"고 밝혔다.
이 대통령은 이날 오전 청와대 영빈관에서 열린 2026 신년 기자회견 질의 응답에서 미측의 한국 반도체 관세 부과 관련해 “그렇게 심각하게 우려 않는다”며 이같이 전했다.
그러면서 “이런 격렬한 대립·불안정 국면에선 예상 못한 요소들이 워낙 많아 너무 일희일비하면 중심잡을 수 없다”며 “이럴수록 자기 중심을 뚜렷이 갖고 정해진 방침·원칙에 따라 대응해 나가면 된다”고 했다.
앞서 대만은 대규모 대미 투자 계획을 발표하며 대미 투자 연계 반도체 관세 면제 혜택을 미국으로부터 약속받았다.
이어 "이럴 경우를 대비 대만보다 불리하지 않게 하겠다고 하는 합의를 미리 다 해 놨다”며 "우리가 뭔가 할 땐 상업적 합리성을 보장한다는 게 제일 중요한 (대미 통상) 기준이 되겠다”고 했다.
더불어 현 글로벌 외교·통상 환경 관련해선 “지금은 예측 불가능 시대로 성장률이 떨어지면 무력 충돌 가능성이 높아진다”며 "국익 중심 실용 외교라 하는 게 그냥 빈말 아닌 정말로 중요한 시점”이라고 주장했다.
