[브레이크뉴스=황민성 기자] 경남도와 통영시가 세계적인 해양스포츠 이벤트인 ‘2025-26 클리퍼 세계일주 요트대회 기항지 행사’를 대한민국 최초로 유치하며, 남해안을 중심으로 한 글로벌 해양레저관광 시대의 개막을 공식 선언했다.
경남도와 통영시는 22일 오후 서울 한국프레스센터에서 기자회견을 열고 2025-26 클리퍼 세계일주 요트대회 및 기항지 행사 개최 계획과 함께 대한민국 최초로 추진 중인 ‘복합해양레저관광도시 조성사업’과의 연계 전략을 공개했다.
이날 행사에는 영국 클리퍼 벤처스의 크리스 러쉬턴 대표이사, 경상남도 김상원 관광개발국장, 통영시 김외영 관광교통국장, 정원주 경남요트협회장 등 국내외 해양레저 분야 주요 인사들이 참석한 가운데 대회의 성공적 개최와 통영의 국제 해양도시 도약 비전을 함께 공유했다.
클리퍼 세계일주 요트대회는 전문 선수가 아닌 일반인이 참가해 약 11개월간 4만해리를 항해하는 세계 최대 규모의 요트 레이스로, 도전과 연대의 상징으로 평가받고 있다.
2025-26시즌에는 전 세계 250여 명의 참가자가 이끄는 10척의 요트 선단이 지구를 일주하며, 이 중 통영은 오는 3월 16일부터 22일까지 공식 기항지로 운영된다.
