[브레이크뉴스=황민성 기자] 하동군은 관내 농·어촌 현장에서 중요한 역할을 수행하고 있는 외국인 근로자들의 원활한 정착과 소통을 돕기 위해 ‘2026년 하동 한국어학당’을 운영한다고 23일 밝혔다.
최근 농·어촌 지역의 고령화로 인해 외국인 계절근로자 제도가 확대·정착됨에 따라 베트남, 캄보디아, 몽골 등 다양한 국적의 근로자들이 하동군에 체류하고 있다.
하지만 많은 근로자가 기초적인 한국어 의사소통 능력이 부족해 근무 현장에서의 업무 지시 이해, 안전사고 노출, 지역 주민과의 갈등 등 다양한 어려움을 겪어왔다.
이에 하동군 가족센터는 외국인 근로자들의 언어·문화적 장벽을 해소하고 안정적인 근무 환경을 조성하기 위해 이번 교육 과정을 마련했다.
올해 한국어학당은 외국인 근로자가 많이 거주하는 하동읍과 옥종면 두 곳에서 운영된다.
교육은 오는 2월 24일 옥종면, 2월 26일 하동읍 개강을 시작으로 7월까지 매주 1회, 각 20회기, 총 40회기에 걸쳐 진행될 예정이다.
주요 교육 내용은 △기초 한국어 회화 및 표준 교재 수업 △작업지시·안전수칙 등 현장 실무 용어 △한국 문화 이해 교육 등으로 구성된다.
특히 실제 현장에서 필요한 의사소통 능력을 배양해 업무 효율성을 높이고 산업재해를 예방하는 데 중점을 두었다.
신청 기간은 오는 26일부터 2월 6일까지이며 하동군가족센터 및 각 읍·면에서 신청을 받는다.
군 관계자는 “외국인 근로자들이 한국어 교육을 통해 고용주 및 지역 주민과 원활하게 소통하며 즐겁고 행복한 하동 생활을 영위하기를 바란다”며 “이들이 하동군 공동체의 일원으로 잘 적응할 수 있도록 다양한 지원 프로그램을 이어가겠다”고 전했다.
