브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 베트남 출장 중 별세한 이해찬 민주평화통일자문회의 수석부의장의 시신이 27일 국내로 운구됐다.
이 수석부의장의 시신을 실은 대한항공 항공기는 베트남 호찌민 떤선녓국제공항을 출발해 약 4시간 30분 만인 이날 오전 6시53분경 인천국제공항에 도착했다.
항공기에는 유가족과 함께 대통령 정무특별보좌관인 조정식 더불어민주당 의원을 비롯해 이재정·김영배·김현·이해식·정태호·최민희 민주당 의원 등이 동승했다.
인천국제공항에는 상임 장례위원장을 맡은 김민석 국무총리와 우원식 국회의장, 정청래 더불어민주당 대표, 한병도 민주당 원내대표, 조국 조국혁신당 대표 등이 나와 고인을 영접했다.
이 수석부의장의 시신은 오전 7시13분경 항공기에서 내려 계류장으로 옮겨졌으며, 장송곡이 울려 퍼지는 가운데 의장대가 고인의 관을 운구차에 실었다.
빈소는 서울대병원 장례식장에 마련됐다. 장례는 이날부터 오는 31일까지 민주평통과 더불어민주당 공동 주관으로 기관·사회장으로 치러진다.
베트남에서 함께 귀국한 이해식 의원은 “평생을 공적으로 헌신하시다가 가셨다”며 “마지막까지 공직 임무를 수행하시다 떠나는 모습을 보며, 남기신 유업을 저희 후배들이 잘 이어가겠다고 다짐했다”고 말했다.
한편 이 수석부의장은 지난 23일 베트남 출장 중 건강이 악화돼 현지 병원에서 치료를 받았으나 끝내 의식을 회복하지 못하고 73세를 일기로 별세했다.
참여정부 시절 국무총리를 지낸 이 수석부의장은 7선 국회의원을 비롯해 주요 공직을 두루 거친 정치 원로로, 한국 정치의 중심에서 활동해왔다. 굵직한 대통령 선거 때마다 당을 지원하며 정치적 멘토 역할을 해왔으며 네 명의 대통령과 정치 행보를 함께하며 ‘킹메이커’로 불리기도 했다. 친노·친문 계열의 좌장격 인물이라는 평가도 따른다.
