브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 제헌절(7월 17일)이 18년 만에 다시 공휴일로 지정됐다.
국회는 29일 본회의를 열고 제헌절을 공휴일로 재지정하는 내용을 담은 ‘공휴일에 관한 법률 일부개정안’을 의결했다. 이날 표결에는 재석 의원 203명 중 198명이 찬성했으며, 반대 2명, 기권 3명으로 가결됐다.
제헌절은 대한민국 헌법 제정을 기념하는 국경일로, 7월 17일이다. 그러나 지난 2008년 기업 부담 증가 등을 이유로 공휴일에서 제외되면서 정부가 지정한 5대 국경일(3·1절, 제헌절, 광복절, 개천절, 한글날) 가운데 유일하게 공휴일이 아닌 날로 남아 있었다.
이번 개정안 통과로 제헌절은 다시 공휴일 지위를 회복하게 됐다. 법안은 공포 후 3개월이 지난 날부터 시행돼, 이르면 올해부터 적용될 전망이다.
앞서 국회에는 임오경·윤호중·최기상·이용우·곽상언 더불어민주당 의원과 나경원·강대식 국민의힘 의원이 각각 대표 발의한 총 7건의 관련 법안이 제출됐다. 이후 국회 행정안전위원회가 이를 병합 심사해 위원회 대안을 마련했고, 이날 본회의에서 최종 의결됐다.
