【브레이크뉴스 경주】박희경 기자=한국원자력환경공단(이사장 조성돈)은 국제원자력기구(IAEA)가 주관한 2025년 방사능분석 숙련도 평가에 처음 참가해 전 항목 A등급을 획득했다고 지난 29일 밝혔다.

이번 평가는 전 세계 100여 개 IAEA 회원국의 550여 개 실험실이 참여해 방사능 분석 결과의 정확도와 정밀도를 검증하는 방식으로 진행됐다. 공단은 지난해 7월 IAEA로부터 제공받은 물 시료를 정밀 분석한 뒤, 같은 해 10월 분석 결과를 제출했으며, 감마선 방출 핵종 5종(²²Na, ⁶⁰Co, ¹³³Ba, ¹³⁴Cs, ¹³⁷Cs) 분석에서 모두 A등급을 받았다.
공단은 이번 국제 방사능분석 숙련도 평가 결과를 바탕으로 방사성폐기물 핵종 분석 결과에 대한 신뢰도를 더욱 높이기 위해 분석 대상 핵종을 지속적으로 확대해 나갈 계획이다. 앞서 공단은 한국원자력안전기술원(KINS)이 주관한 방사능분석능력평가에서도 8년 연속 A등급을 획득한 바 있다.
한편 한국원자력환경공단은 경주 중·저준위 방사성폐기물 처분시설 부지 주변과 방폐물 해상 운반 경로를 중심으로 토양과 해수 등 24종의 시료를 119개 지점에서 채취해 연간 약 2천750건의 방사선 환경 조사를 실시하고 있다. 관련 분석 결과는 공단 홈페이지를 통해 투명하게 공개하고 있다.
조성돈 한국원자력환경공단 이사장은 “올해부터 본격 운영에 들어간 방폐물 분석센터가 국내 핵종 분석 분야를 선도해 산업 생태계 육성과 안전한 방사선 환경 조성에 기여할 수 있도록 책임을 다하겠다”고 말했다.

KOREA (Chairman Cho Sung-don) announced on the 29th that it had achieved Grade A in all categories in its first participation in the 2025 Radioactivity Analysis Proficiency Assessment hosted by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
This assessment involved approximately 550 laboratories from over 100 IAEA member states worldwide, verifying the accuracy and precision of radioactivity analysis results. The agency conducted a detailed analysis of water samples provided by the IAEA in July of last year and submitted the results in October of the same year. Based on the results of this international radioactivity analysis proficiency assessment, the Korea Radioactive Waste Agency (KRA) plans to continuously expand the scope of its radioactive waste analysis to further enhance the reliability of its results. Previously, the agency achieved an A grade in the radioactivity analysis capability assessment conducted by the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety (KINS) for eight consecutive years.
Meanwhile, the Korea Radioactive Waste Agency (KRA) conducts approximately 2,750 annual radioactivity environmental surveys by collecting 24 types of samples, including soil and seawater, from 119 locations around the Gyeongju Low- and Intermediate-Level Radioactive Waste Disposal Facility site and along the maritime transport routes of radioactive waste. The results of these analyses are transparently disclosed on the agency's website.
Korea Radioactive Waste Agency Chairman Cho Sung-don stated, "The Radioactive Waste Analysis Center, which began full-scale operations this year, will lead the domestic radioactivity analysis field and fulfill its responsibility to contribute to the development of the industrial ecosystem and a safe radiation environment."
