내 부모는 산바람 강바람 부는 곳
들판, 그 곳에서만 살았다.
태어나서 죽을 때까지
벼 심기도 하고, 보리도 가꾸며
그 곳에서만 살았다.
들판이 바라다 보이는
가끔씩, 산바람 강바람이 불어오던 곳
나는 그곳에 태어났다.
내 부모는 자연에 순응했었고
나는 그런 곳에서 자랐다.
전라도 들판, 논두렁이 있는 논 배미
그곳에는 대 자유(自由)만 있다.
그래서 나는
자연의 흉내만을 내면서, 살았다, 살았다.

My parents lived only in the fields, where the mountain breeze and river wind blew.
From birth to death,
we planted rice and cultivated barley,
living only there.
I was born there, in a place overlooking the fields,
where the mountain breeze and river breeze occasionally blew.
My parents were in harmony with nature,
and I grew up there.
The fields of Jeolla Province, at the ridges between the rice paddies,
there was only great freedom.
So,
I lived, lived,
imitating nature.
