【브레이크뉴스 대구】이성현 기자=정장수 전 대구시 경제부시장이 대구 중구청장 출마의 첫 번째 핵심 공약으로 ‘광역교통 혁명을 통한 중구 대부흥’을 선언했다. KTX와 SRT를 대구역에 정차시켜 중구를 전국적인 관광 명소이자 사통팔달의 열린 도시로 만들겠다는 구상이다.

정 전 부시장은 8일 보도자료를 통해 “1905년 개통 이래 대구의 관문이었던 대구역이 동대구역 중심의 체제로 밀려나며 중구 도심의 활력도 정체됐다”고 진단하며, “이제는 대구역 정차를 통해 중구의 자존심과 명성을 되찾아야 할 때”라고 강조했다.
현재 대부분의 고속열차가 동대구역과 일부 서대구역에만 정차하고 대구역은 무정차 통과함에 따라, 중구와 북구 주민들의 이용 불편은 물론 도심 관광객 유입에 한계가 있다는 지적이 지속되어 왔다.

정 전 부시장은 실현 가능한 2단계 로드맵을 제시했다. 1단계로는 상대적으로 열차 편성이 짧아 현재의 플랫폼으로도 정차가 가능한 SRT를 국토부·코레일 협의를 통해 올해 안에 우선 정차시킨 뒤, 2단계로 16량 편성인 KTX 정차를 위해 플랫폼 확장 공사를 조기에 착수, 단계적으로 KTX 유치까지 마무리한다는 계획이다.
그는 “현재 대구역 선로는 여유가 있어 정책적 결단과 협의만 있다면 SRT 정차는 즉시 가능하다”며 경제부시장 시절 쌓은 중앙정부와의 네트워크를 적극 활용하겠다는 자신감을 내비쳤다.
정 전 부시장이 교통망 확충에 집중하는 이유는 중구의 풍부한 관광 자산과 직결되기 때문이라는 분석이다. 대구역에서 반경 1km 이내에 위치한 동성로, 경상감영공원, 근대문화골목, iM뱅크파크 등을 고속철도와 직접 연결해 전국 단위의 유동 인구를 끌어들이겠다는 전략이다.
여기에 더해 현재 설계 중인 대구경북광역철도(대경선) 태평로역(가칭)의 조기 완공을 약속하며, 구미·경산·김천 등 인근 경북 지역과의 접근성도 획기적으로 개선하겠다고 밝혔다.
정 전 부시장은 “교통 접근성이 획기적으로 개선되면 중구가 보유한 역사·문화 자산은 지역 경제를 살리는 강력한 엔진이 될 것”이라며, “중구 관광특구 지정과 광역교통 혁명을 결합해 구청장 한 사람이 도시를 어떻게 바꾸는지 결과로 보여주겠다”고 역설했다.

In the second phase, platform expansion construction will begin early to accommodate 16-car KTX trains, gradually completing the KTX program.
He expressed his confidence in actively leveraging the network he built with the central government during his time as Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs, saying, "Currently, Daegu Station has ample track space, so SRT stops are immediately possible with only policy decisions and consultations."
Former Deputy Mayor Jeong's focus on expanding the transportation network is attributed to its direct connection to Jung-gu's abundant tourism assets. His strategy is to directly connect Dongseong-ro, Gyeongsang Gamyeong Park, Modern Culture Alley, and iM Bank Park, all within a 1km radius of Daegu Station, with high-speed rail to attract a nationwide floating population.
Furthermore, he pledged to quickly complete the Taepyeong-ro Station (tentative name) on the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Metropolitan Railway (Daegyeong Line), currently under design, and announced that accessibility to neighboring Gyeongbuk regions such as Gumi, Gyeongsan, and Gimcheon would be dramatically improved.
Former Vice Mayor Jeong said, “If transportation accessibility is dramatically improved, the historical and cultural assets that Jung-gu possesses will become a powerful engine that will revitalize the local economy,” and emphasized, “By combining the designation of Jung-gu as a special tourism zone and the metropolitan transportation revolution, we will demonstrate through results how one district mayor can change a city.”
