<브레이크뉴스 태백 = 김일웅 기자> 태백시가 강릉영동대학교와 손잡고 지역 소멸 위기 극복과 대학 유치를 위한 실질적인 협력 거점을 마련했다.
태백시는 지난 5일부터 6일까지 강릉영동대학교 주최로 ‘지역혁신중심 대학지원체계(RISE) 연계 협력 행사’를 개최하고, 대학과 지역사회의 상생 발전을 위한 구체적인 실행 방안을 논의했다고 밝혔다.

가장 눈에 띄는 성과는 지난 6일 장성생활SOC 복합커뮤니티센터에서 열린 ‘강릉영동대학교 RISE센터’와 ‘요양보호사 교육원 태백점’ 개소식이다.
이번에 문을 연 RISE센터는 향후 태백시와 대학 간의 협력 사업을 총괄하는 컨트롤타워 역할을 수행한다. 함께 개소한 요양보호사 교육원은 초고령화 사회에 진입한 태백 지역의 특성을 반영해 현장 맞춤형 돌봄 전문 인력을 체계적으로 양성할 예정이다.
앞서 5일과 6일 양일간 열린 ‘G-NEXT-3Lab 지역 문제기반 워크숍’에서는 지난 1월 출범한 ‘태백시 대학유치민간추진위원회’와 ‘강릉영동대 태백캠퍼스 설립 준비단’이 처음으로 공식 대면해 이목을 끌었다. 이들은 RISE 사업의 성과를 공유하고, 일본의 지역 소멸 대응 사례를 분석하며 '태백캠퍼스' 설립을 위한 로드맵을 구체화했다.
그동안 강릉영동대는 태백시와 함께 청소년 바리스타, 성인 문해 강사, 다문화 이중언어 강사 양성 등 전 세대를 아우르는 밀착형 교육 사업을 진행해 왔다.
태백시 관계자는 “이번 센터 개소는 대학이 지역 깊숙이 들어와 현안을 함께 해결하는 ‘담벼락 없는 캠퍼스’의 시작점”이라며 “강릉영동대와의 파트너십을 더욱 공고히 해 태백시민이 염원하는 대학 유치 결실을 맺을 수 있도록 총력을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
