충남 계룡시의회 이청환 의원(더불어민주당)이 한반도 평화통일 기반 조성과 지역 공동체 화합을 이끈 탁월한 업적을 인정받아 9일 민주평화통일자문회의(이하 민주평통) 의장인 대통령 표창을 수훈했다.
민주평통 의장 표창은 자유민주적 기본질서에 입각해 평화통일 활동에 헌신하고, '자유·평화·번영의 한반도' 구현에 기여한 자문위원에게 수여하는 최고 권위의 상이다.
이청환 의원은 지난 제14기 자문위원을 시작으로 오랜 기간 통일 역량 강화에 매진해 온 '통일 전문가'로서 그 공로를 공식적으로 인정받게 됐다.
이 의원은 제18기와 제19기 계룡시협의회 청년위원장을 역임하며 통일이라는 무거운 주제를 시민의 눈높이로 끌어내리는 데 앞장섰다.
특히 청소년과 청년층을 대상으로 딱딱한 강연 대신 체험 위주의 프로그램을 기획해 평화통일에 대한 친밀도를 높였으며, '지역 봉사가 곧 애국'이라는 신념으로 소외계층 지원과 통일 캠페인을 접목해 시민들이 일상 속에서 통일의 가치를 자연스럽게 체감하도록 유도했다.
이러한 활동은 지역 내 세대 간 갈등을 치유하고 공동체 의식을 회복하는 데 큰 역할을 했다는 평가를 받는다.
시의원으로서의 이 의원은 평화통일 관련 활동이 선언적 행사에 그치지 않도록 예산의 효율적 집행을 감시하는 한편, 통일 관련 단체들의 안정적인 활동을 위한 정책적 대안을 꾸준히 제시하며 행정과 민간을 잇는 가교 역할을 충실히 수행해 왔다.
