【브레이크뉴스 안동】박영재 기자=이강덕 전 포항시장(국민의힘)이 10일 오전 경상북도선거관리위원회에서 6·3 지방선거 경북도지사 예비후보로 공식 등록하고 본격적인 선거 행보에 나섰다.
전날 포항시청에서 퇴임식을 가진 이 전 시장은 하루 만에 예비후보 등록 절차를 마쳤다. 이 전 시장은 당초 더 이른 시점에 시장직을 사퇴하고 선거전에 돌입할 수 있었으나, 행정 공백을 최소화하기 위해 퇴임 시점을 최대한 늦춘 것으로 알려졌다. 이 같은 결정으로 지난 8일 새벽 발생한 포항시 북구 죽장면 산불 진화까지 책임지고 마무리했다.
이 전 시장은 예비후보 등록 직후 “‘제2의 박정희’가 되어 ‘경북중흥’의 길을 반드시 완성하겠다”며 “지금껏 그래왔듯 앞으로도 말이 아닌 실천으로 증명하겠다”고 밝혔다. 이어 “박정희 대통령께서 산업화를 통해 대한민국 경제의 초석을 다지고 민족중흥의 길을 여셨듯, 저는 AI 로봇산업을 중심으로 경북 경제를 다시 도약시키겠다”고 강조했다.
후보 등록을 마친 이 전 시장은 첫 일정으로 안동 천년숲에 위치한 박정희 대통령 동상을 찾아 참배했다. 이 자리에서 그는 “박정희 대통령의 결단과 실천 정신을 계승해 지방소멸을 끝장내고 ‘북부 산업시대’를 열겠다”고 말했다.
이어 안동충혼탑을 찾아 순국선열과 호국영령의 희생을 기렸다. 이 전 시장은 “오늘의 대한민국과 경북은 수많은 희생 위에 세워졌다”며 “도민의 안전과 나라의 근간을 지키는 책임 있는 도정을 펼치겠다”고 밝혔다.
참배를 마친 뒤에는 안동중앙신시장과 안동구시장, 용상시장 등을 차례로 방문하며 민생 현장의 목소리를 직접 청취했다.
이 전 시장은 “안동은 미래 신산업과 경북 북부 발전을 이끄는 핵심 축이자 정신문화의 본산”이라며 “전통과 미래가 조화를 이루는 경북형 발전 모델을 완성하고 북부권 발전을 책임지겠다”고 말했다.
이 전 시장은 예비후보 기간 동안 경북 전역을 순회하며 도민과 직접 소통하고, AI 로봇산업을 중심으로 한 경북 미래 비전과 분야별·지역별 핵심 공약을 순차적으로 발표할 계획이다.

He then visited the Andong Memorial Tower and paid tribute to the sacrifices of the patriotic martyrs and spirits who defended the nation. He declared, "Today's Republic of Korea and Gyeongbuk were built on countless sacrifices. I will implement responsible provincial administration that protects the safety of our residents and the foundation of our nation."
Following his visit, he visited Andong Central New Market, Andong Old Market, and Yongsang Market to hear directly from the people.
Former Mayor Lee stated, "Andong is a key axis driving future new industries and the development of northern Gyeongsangbuk-do, as well as a center of spiritual culture. I will complete a Gyeongsangbuk-do development model that harmonizes tradition and the future and take responsibility for the development of the northern region."
During his preliminary candidacy, former Mayor Lee plans to tour Gyeongsangbuk-do, directly communicating with residents. He will sequentially announce a vision for the future of Gyeongsangbuk-do centered on the AI and robotics industries, as well as key pledges by sector and region.
