이번 공모는 노후화되고 삭막한 산업단지에 문화, 여가, 휴식 기능을 대폭 확충해 청년 인재들이 찾아오는 매력적인 공간으로 탈바꿈시키는 정부 주도 프로젝트다.
원주시는 전략적 요충지로 ▲글로벌 식품기업 삼양식품이 위치한 ‘우산일반산업단지’와 ▲첨단 의료기기·헬스케어 기업이 밀집한 ‘태장농공단지’를 낙점했다. 단순히 공장만 돌아가는 곳이 아닌, 일터와 문화가 공존하는 혁신 거점으로 만들겠다는 구상이다.
특히 시는 삼양식품의 ‘불닭’ 신화로 대표되는 K-푸드 콘텐츠를 적극 활용해 산업단지를 ‘글로벌 미식 랜드마크’로 조성한다는 계획이다. 여기에 태장농공단지의 헬스케어 기술을 접목해 청년들이 선호하는 ‘스마트·웰니스 일터’를 구현, 만성적인 인력난 해소와 정주 여건 개선이라는 두 마리 토끼를 잡겠다는 전략이다.
원주시는 이미 ‘원주라면페스타’, ‘원주만두축제’ 등 식품 관련 축제를 성공시킨 경험과 ‘국립강원전문과학관’, ‘원주시립미술관’ 등 탄탄한 문화 인프라 구축 노하우를 강점으로 내세워 심사위원들을 공략할 방침이다.
