더불어민주당 대전시당 전병용 자치분권위원장(전 대전시장애인체육회 사무처장)이 11일, ‘다시 뛰는 대전의 심장, 중구’를 슬로건으로 내걸고 대전 중구청장 선거 출마를 공식 선언했다.
전 위원장은 이날 출마선언문을 통해 2026년 현재 중구의 인구 22만 명 붕괴 위기와 초고령 사회 진입을 언급하며, “지금 중구는 분명한 위기의 갈림길에 서 있다. 이 위기는 결단하지 않았기 때문에 만들어진 결과”라고 강하게 지적했다.
전 위원장은 지역 내 주요 현안에 대해 ‘속도’보다 ‘책임’과 ‘안전’을 강조했다.

또한 장기 중단된 대흥동 메가시티 문제에 대해서는 “용도 변경 논의에 앞서 구조적 안전성 진단이 최우선”이라며, “구민의 안전보다 중요한 개발은 없다. 불안한 공간을 그대로 둔 채 미래를 이야기하지 않겠다”고 단호한 입장을 밝혔다.
전 위원장은 중구의 미래 성장 동력으로 2025년 개장한 베이스볼 드림파크 ,트램 2호선 ,충청권 광역철도를 꼽았다. 그는 “이 기회들을 얼마나 빠르게가 아니라, 얼마나 안전하고 공정하게 주민의 삶으로 연결하느냐가 관건”이라며 정책의 방향성을 제시했다.
그는 국회의원 사무국장과 대전시장애인체육회 사무처장을 역임하며 쌓은 행정·예산 전문가로서의 역량을 강조하며, “책상 위가 아닌 사람의 삶 한가운데에서 행정의 책임을 배웠다”고 자신감을 내비쳤다.
