<브레이크뉴스 포천 = 이용하 기자> 포천시가 고질적인 북부권 악취 문제를 뿌리 뽑기 위해 과학적 분석을 토대로 한 강력한 대응책 마련에 나섰다.
포천시는 지난 10일 시청 시정회의실에서 김종훈 부시장 주재로 ‘포천북부 악취 중점 관리지역 세부 관리방안 연구용역’ 중간보고회를 개최했다고 밝혔다.
이번 보고회는 주민들의 정주 여건을 개선하기 위해 지난해부터 추진 중인 연구용역의 진행 상황을 점검하는 자리로 마련됐다. 현장에는 김종훈 부시장을 비롯해 주민 대표, 환경 전문가, 관계 공무원 등 20여 명이 참석해 지난 1년간의 악취 실태 조사 결과를 면밀히 분석하고, 향후 관리 방향과 법적·제도적 보완책을 심도 있게 논의했다.
시는 이번 조사 결과를 바탕으로 악취 배출 사업장에 대한 관리를 대폭 강화할 방침이다. 주요 대책으로는 ▲악취 배출 신고대상시설 지정 ▲고농도 지역의 악취관리지역 지정 검토 ▲실시간 악취 모니터링 시스템 고도화 ▲사업주 대상 기술 지원 및 교육 확대 등이 포함됐다.

포천시 관계자는 “악취는 시민의 기본권인 쾌적한 환경권과 직결된 시급한 과제”라며 “단순한 현황 파악에 그치지 않고, 시민들이 피부로 느낄 수 있는 확실한 변화를 이끌어내기 위해 과학적이고 실효성 있는 관리 방안을 수립하겠다”고 강조했다.
한편, 포천시는 이번 중간보고회에서 도출된 의견을 수렴해 올해 말까지 2년 차 정밀 조사를 마무리하고, 오는 2027년 초 최종적인 ‘악취 관리 종합대책’을 발표하여 ‘악취 없는 청정 포천’을 완성한다는 계획이다.
