파주시가 자율주행자동차의 상용화를 위한 제도적 기반을 마련했다.
파주시는 12일 「자율주행자동차 시범운행지구 운영 및 지원 조례」를 제정했다고 밝혔다.
이번 조례는 자율주행자동차 시범운행지구의 체계적인 운영과 관련 시설물 관리를 통해 자율주행 서비스 지원 체계를 구축하기 위해 마련됐다.
조례에는 △자율주행시설 설치·관리 △운송 체계 구축·운영 △시범운행 운영 지원 근거 마련 △추진 성과 시민 공유 체계 마련 등의 내용이 담겼다.
파주시는 지난해 12월 국토교통부로부터 자율주행자동차 시범운행지구로 신규 지정받았으며, 올해 하반기부터 본격적인 서비스에 나선다.
수도권광역급행철도(GTX)-A 운정중앙역을 중심으로 주야간 자율주행버스 노선을 운영해 대중교통 취약 시간대의 이동권을 보완하고 지역 간 접근성을 강화한다는 계획이다.
시는 관련 예산을 확보해 자율주행 서비스를 신속히 도입·운영함으로써 시민 교통 불편을 해소하고 미래 모빌리티 기반 교통 체계를 조성해 나갈 방침이다.
조춘동 도로교통국장은 "이번 조례 제정은 자율주행 서비스의 안정적인 운영과 상용화를 위한 중요한 제도적 기반"이라며 "자율주행 기술을 활용한 시민 체감형 교통 서비스를 정착시켜 교통 문제를 해결하고 도시 경쟁력을 높이는 데 주력하겠다"고 말했다.
