[브레이크뉴스=황민성 기자] 의령군은 한우산의 우수한 자연환경과 밤하늘 자원을 활용한 복합 산림휴양 공간 ‘한우산 별천지’ 조성 사업을 완료하고 11일 준공식을 개최했다.
한우산은 해발 800m가 넘는 고지대임에도 정상 인근까지 차량 접근이 가능해 접근성과 조망을 동시에 갖춘 산이다. 사방으로 트인 지형과 빛 공해가 거의 없는 자연환경 덕분에 은하수 관측에 최적의 조건을 갖추고 있다.
이 같은 강점으로 한우산은 전국 사진작가와 천문 동호인들 사이에서 ‘숨은 별 관측 명소’로 알려져 왔다. 별을 찾아 배낭을 메고 오르던 청년들의 발길이 이번 사업의 출발점이 됐다.
의령군은 이 같은 지역적 특성을 관광·교육 자원으로 체계화하기 위해 총사업비 54억 원을 투입해 사업을 추진했으며, 이 중 국비 20억 원을 확보했다.
사업은 기존 한우산 생태주차장 부지(의령군 궁류면 벽계리 산200번지) 4,980㎡에 조성됐으며 2023년 4월 착공해 2025년 12월 건축공사를 마무리하고 이번에 준공했다.
한우산 별천지는 밤하늘의 우주선을 형상화한 독창적인 건축 디자인으로 조성돼 조형적 상징성과 기능성을 함께 갖췄다. 별자리 관측시설과 전망대를 비롯해 천문 교육 공간과 숙박 기능을 포함한 복합 산림휴양·체험 인프라로 구축돼 체험형 관광 거점으로 활용될 예정이다.
접근성도 한층 강화되고 있다. 별천지 입구인 쇠목재 방향으로 한우산 터널이 개통을 준비하며 이동 편의성을 높이고 있다. 오르는 길목에는 생태숲 홍보관이 자리하고 있으며, 한우정 주변에는 도깨비 설화원과 홍의송원이 조성돼 다양한 체험과 볼거리를 제공한다.
또한 한우정 일원에는 휴게공간과 화장실을 갖춘 ‘꽃바람 쉼터’가 마련돼 있고, 정상에는 전망대가 조성돼 사방으로 펼쳐지는 장관을 감상할 수 있다. 봄이면 철쭉이 만발해 산 전체가 붉게 물드는 천혜의 자연환경을 자랑하며, 단풍나무와 고로쇠나무 등 특화 수종이 식재돼 사계절 색다른 풍경을 선사한다.
한우산 별천지는 시설 점검과 운영 준비를 거쳐 오는 6월 정식 운영에 들어갈 예정이다.
