민선 6·7기 천안시정을 이끌었던 구본영 전 천안시장이 제9회 전국동시지방선거 천안시장 예비후보로 등록하며 시청 탈환을 위한 본격적인 행보에 나섰다.

구 예비후보는 20일 예비후보 등록을 마친 뒤 언론에 보낸 입장문을 통해 “민선 6·7기 시장으로서 시민과 함께 천안의 오늘을 만들어왔던 경험을 바탕으로, 부족함은 채우고 성과는 더 키워 ‘이번에는 더 잘해내겠다’는 각오로 다시 섰다”며 소회를 밝혔다.

구 예비후보는 이번 출마의 핵심 가치로 ‘시민의 삶을 끝까지 책임지는 시장’을 내세웠다. 그는 “천안은 내 인생의 무대이고 시민은 내가 걸어갈 이유”라며 아이부터 어르신까지 모든 세대가 안심하고 꿈을 꿀 수 있는 도시를 만들겠다는 의지를 피력했다.

지역 정가에서는 구본영 전 시장의 가세로 충남 수부 도시인 천안시장 선거판이 한층 뜨겁게 달아오를 것으로 전망하고 있다. 

예비후보 등록을 마친 구 후보는 앞으로 각계각층의 시민들을 만나 현장의 목소리를 듣고 분야별 세부 공약을 차례로 발표할 계획이다.
