충남대학교와 국립공주대학교가 ‘특성화 지방대학(글로컬대학)’ 사업을 계기로 통합 추진의 속도를 높이며, 중부권을 대표하는 초광역 통합대학으로서의 청사진을 제시했다.
두 대학은 23일 충남대학교 중앙도서관에서 ‘초광역 지역성장엔진 포럼’을 열고, 통합 글로컬대학으로서의 ‘중부권 지역성장엔진 비전’을 공식 선포했다.
비전 선포식에는 김정겸 충남대 총장, 임경호 국립공주대 총장, 김영식 국가과학기술회 이사장, 방승찬 한국전자통신연구원장, 이동철 하나마이크론 대표 등이 참석했으며, 최교진 교육부 장관은 영상메시지를 통해 축하 인사를 전했다.
양 대학은 “두 개의 대학, 하나의 엔진”이라는 구호 아래, 대전-세종-충남을 아우르는 통합 글로컬대학으로서 국가균형발전의 핵심 동력이 되겠다는 비전을 내놓았다. 특히 지·산·학·연 주체 간 협력 생태계 구축을 통해 지역 혁신과 글로벌 경쟁력 강화의 토대를 다지겠다는 의지를 밝혔다.
포럼은 ‘국가·연구소·대학 동반 성장 모델’과 ‘특성화 분야별 미래성장 엔진’ 두 개 세션으로 나뉘어 진행됐다.
한양대 박태준 단장은 ‘지능형로봇 혁신융합대학사업 성과’를, ETRI 신정혁 본부장은 ‘대학-출연연 협력의 새로운 모델’을 주제 발표했다. 이어 알테오젠 최상락 부사장과 한국타이어앤테크놀로지 김성호 전무가 각각 바이오·AI 혁신 기술 관련 발표를 통해 대학-산업 간 시너지 방향을 제시했다.
이번 포럼은 지난해 글로컬대학 사업 선정 성과를 지역사회와 공유하고, 지자체·출연연·기업·대학 등 핵심 주체 간 협력 네트워크를 강화하기 위해 마련됐다. 또한 충남대와 공주대는 정부의 거점국립대 육성 및 초광역 RISE 체계와 연계해 국가균형발전의 중추 역할을 수행하겠다는 목표를 함께 밝혔다.
김정겸 총장은 “오늘의 비전 선포는 두 대학이 중부권 발전의 심장으로 함께 뛰겠다는 선언”이라며 “이 지역성장엔진이 청년에게는 기회, 기업에는 경쟁력, 지역에는 활력을 불어넣는 동력이 될 것”이라고 말했다.
