공주소방서·마곡사·공주시·충남도의회, 건립 위한 4자 업무협약 체결
문화재 보호와 소방 행정 결합한 전국 최초의 선도 모델 평가

유네스코 세계문화유산인 공주 마곡사를 화재와 재난으로부터 보다 체계적으로 보호하기 위한 ‘대한민국 1호’ 사찰 인접 소방 거점 시설 건립이 본격화된다.
충남 공주소방서에 따르면 24일, 마곡사 관음전에서 마곡사, 공주시, 충청남도의회와 함께 ‘마곡사 소방청사 건립을 위한 4자 간 업무협약(MOU)’을 체결했다고 밝혔다.
이번 협약은 산사 특유의 지리적 한계를 극복하고 세계문화유산을 안전하게 보존하기 위한 민·관·정의 강력한 의지가 결합된 결과다.
그동안 마곡사 일대의 안전을 책임져온 ‘마곡사전문의용소방대’는 2025년 8월 발대 이후 전용 공간이 없어 경내 사무실을 임차해 임시 청사로 사용해 왔다.
장비 보관과 대원 교육에 어려움이 컸음에도 현장 중심의 대응을 이어온 대원들에게 이번 청사 건립 소식은 큰 힘이 될 전망이다.
새롭게 건립될 소방청사는 공주시 사곡면 운암리 일대 약 500여 평 부지에 들어선다. 2025년 하반기부터 부지 확보와 예산 마련을 위해 4개 기관이 지속적으로 협의해 온 결실이다.
협약에 따라 마곡사는 부지 제공에 협조하고, 공주시는 해당 부지를 매입해 사업을 총괄하며, 충청남도와 공주시의 예산 매칭을 통해 본격적인 설계 및 건축이 진행된다.
이번 사업은 유네스코 세계문화유산인 산사 경내와 인접한 지역에 현대식 소방 거점 시설이 들어서는 대한민국 최초의 사례라는 점에서 큰 의미를 갖는다.
소방당국은 이를 문화재 보호 정책과 소방 행정이 유기적으로 결합된 전국적인 선도 모델로 육성할 방침이다.
4개 기관은 청사 건립 지원 외에도 마곡사 일대 재난 예방 활동 강화 ,지역 주민 대상 소방안전교육 확대 등 지역 공동체의 안전망을 촘촘히 하는 데 협력하기로 뜻을 모았다.
