장종태 국회의원 “충남·대전 통합특별법, 정치적 계산이 충청의 미래 가로막았다"

충남·대전 통합특별법이 국회 법제사법위원회를 통과하지 못한 데 대해 장종태 국회의원(대전 서구)은 24일 “참으로 안타깝고 아쉬운 일”이라며 “정치적 계산이 충청의 미래를 가로막았다”고 강하게 비판했다.

장 의원은 이날 입장문을 통해 “20조 원의 통합 예산은 충청권을 서울급의 경제·행정 중심지로 도약시킬 수 있는 역사적 기회였다”며 “수도권 일극 체제를 넘어 충청이 대한민국의 또 다른 중심이 될 수 있는 기회였다”고 강조했다.

이어 “통합의 출발은 이장우 대전시장과 김태흠 충남지사가 먼저 제안한 일이었다. ‘충청의 미래를 위해 통합이 필요하다’고 외쳤던 두 분이지만, 결국 결정의 순간 정치적 계산 앞에 물러섰다”며 책임을 지적했다.

장 의원은 “지역의 100년을 내다보는 결단 대신 당장의 정치 셈법을 택한 것”이라며 “충청의 미래가 특정 정치인의 이해관계에 좌우되어서는 안 된다. 이는 정당의 문제가 아니라 충청의 생존과 미래에 관한 문제”라고 강조했다.

그는 또 “아직 기회는 남아 있다. 누군가는 끝까지 밀어붙여야 하고, 누군가는 불쏘시개가 되어야 한다”며 “대전과 충남의 미래를 위해, 충청이 서울과 어깨를 나란히 하는 날까지 물러서지 않겠다. 반드시 충청의 도약을 이루겠다”고 말했다.

한편, 대전·충남 통합특별법은 이날 법사위 심사에서 여야 간 의견 차이로 의결이 보류되면서 다음 회기 재논의로 미뤄졌다. 

해당 법안은 충남·대전 행정통합 추진을 위한 법적 근거와 20조 원 규모의 재정지원을 담고 있다.
