53년. 기자-언론인으로 살아오면서 한국의 큰 매체인 조선일보와 직-간접적인 인연이 있을 수 있다. 필자에게도 있다. 서희건 조선일보 전 문화부장님(1944-2002)과의 각별했던 인연이다.
1980년 5.18이 발생하기 이전, 서희건 님은 동양통신사의 기자였었다. 그 무렵, 필자가 주간신문 기자였을 때, 나는 그분과 함께 조계종 출입기자였다. 그 분은 이어 조선일보로 이적(移籍)했다. 1981년 조선일보 문화부 기자로 입사했다. 그후 조선일보 편집국 문화부장·생활과학부장·부국장과 월간조선 편집장, 조선일보 80년 사사(社史) 편찬실장을 지냈다.
이 분은 연구와 기획을 통해 일본 제국주의에 의한 한국사 왜곡과 말살에 관한 문제를 조명(편저 '잃어버린 역사를 찾아서' 발간)하는 데에도 기여했다. 이 분이 월간조선 편집장으로 재직할 때, 필자에게 월간조선 입사를 권유했었다. 그러나 뜻이 이뤄지진 않았다.
서희건 님의 원고청탁에 의해 조선일보 인기 연재였던 ‘젊은이의 발언대’에 나의 원고가 게재됐었다. 필자의 저서였던 부처님과 예수님의 악수에 게재됐던, 계룡산 신도안 르포 기사가 조선일보 사회면에 보도되기도 했다. 서희건 님은 필자에게 영향을 준 언론계의 선배, 그립다.
필자는 긴 기간, 김형욱(전 중앙정보부장)실종사건을 추적했었다. 이 과정에서 신용석 조선일보 전 주불특파원님을 만나 도움을 받았었다. 고마운 분이었다.
조갑제 월간조선 전 편집장님과의 인연도 있다. 이때, 필자는 월간조선에 몇 번의 기고를 했었다. 이 분과는 지금도 가끔씩, 통화를 하곤 한다.
필자가 시사주간신문인 일요서울의 편집국장(1994-1996)을 하던 시절, 방응모 조선일보 창업주, 장일영-방우영 전 발행인님과 관련된 글을 게재, 조선일보측과 다소 껄끄러운 기간도 잠시 가졌었다.

김민배 조선일보 전 정치부장-TV 조선 사장님(1958-2024)과도 인연이 있다. 그분의 출신지는 전라도 진도. 같은 전라도 출신으로서, 더불어 어울려, 서울 노량진수산시장에서 가끔씩 신선한 회를 먹곤 했다. 이 분은 호남출신 언론인으로서 조선일보사의 발전에 기여한 분이다.
한국의 주요 언론 매체들은 한국의 발전사를 하나하나 기록해왔다. 그 존재성(存在性)을 따질 때, 한국의 언론 매체들은 국가와 함께 영원할 것이다. 그런 의미로, 필자 역시 오늘도 언론에 종사(從仕)한다. moonilsuk@naver.com

As a journalist and journalist, you may have had a direct or indirect connection with the Chosun Ilbo, a major Korean media outlet. I, too, have a special connection with Seo Hee-geon (1944-2002), former Culture Editor of the Chosun Ilbo.
Before the May 18th Democratization Movement in 1980, Seo Hee-geon was a reporter for the Dongyang News Agency. Around that time, when I was a weekly newspaper reporter, I was a reporter covering the Jogye Order with him. He later transferred to the Chosun Ilbo. He joined the Chosun Ilbo as a culture reporter in 1981. He later served as the editor-in-chief of the Culture Department, the Life Science Department, and the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Monthly Chosun, and the head of the compilation office for the Chosun Ilbo's 80-year history.
Through research and planning, he also contributed to shedding light on the distortion and obliteration of Korean history by Japanese imperialism. While serving as the editor-in-chief of Monthly Chosun, he invited me to join the magazine. However, this request was unsuccessful.
At the request of Seo Hee-geon, my manuscript was published in the Chosun Ilbo's popular series, "Youth's Forum." I also have a connection with Cho Gap-je, former editor-in-chief of Monthly Chosun. I contributed to Monthly Chosun several times during that time. I still occasionally talk to him on the phone.
When I was the editor-in-chief of the weekly newspaper Sunday Seoul (1994-1996), I published an article about Bang Eung-mo, founder of the Chosun Ilbo, and former publishers Jang Il-young and Bang Woo-young, which created a somewhat awkward period with the Chosun Ilbo.
I also have a connection with Kim Min-bae, former political editor of the Chosun Ilbo and president of TV Chosun (1958-2024). He was from Jindo, Jeolla Province. As fellow Jeolla natives, we would often enjoy fresh sashimi together at the Noryangjin Fish Market in Seoul. He was a journalist from the Honam region who contributed to the development of the Chosun Ilbo.
