【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=대구국제고등학교가 올해 첫 국제바칼로레아(IB) 디플로마 프로그램 졸업생을 배출하며 95%라는 높은 디플로마 취득률을 기록했다.
학교에 따르면 올해 IB DP를 처음 이수한 졸업생 20명 중 19명이 디플로마를 따냈다. 이는 세계 평균 취득률 73.8%를 크게 상회하는 수치다. 학생들의 평균 점수 역시 31점으로, 세계 평균(29점)보다 높게 나타났다.
이중언어 디플로마 취득률도 주목된다. 전체 졸업생 가운데 18명(90%)이 이중언어 디플로마를 받았다. 이는 전 세계 평균인 26%와 비교해 월등히 높은 수준이다.
진학 성과도 이어졌다. 해외 대학 진학 사례로는 멜버른대, 모나쉬대, 엠브리 리들 항공대, 홍콩대 등이 포함됐다. 국내에서는 연세대, 성균관대, 한양대, 중앙대, 건국대, 서울시립대 등 주요 대학에 학생부종합전형으로 합격자가 나왔다.
학교 측은 이번 성과에 대해 “탐구와 비판적 사고, 글쓰기와 토론을 중시하는 IB 교육과정이 학교 현장에 안정적으로 정착한 결과”라고 평가했다. 특히 높은 이중언어 디플로마 취득률에 대해서는 “영어 기반 수업 운영과 학생들의 학습 몰입도가 어우러져 가능했다”고 설명했다.
대구국제고 관계자는 “첫 졸업생임에도 불구하고 세계 평균을 뛰어넘는 성과를 낸 것은 학생들의 노력과 교사의 수업 전문성이 결합된 결과”라며 “앞으로도 IB 교육을 통해 학생들이 국내외에서 다양한 진로를 선택할 수 있도록 교육 환경을 계속해서 강화하겠다”고 말했다.
