[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 창원특례시가 지역 대학 신입생들을 지원하기 위해 오는 3월 3일부터 관내 대학 새내기들의 생활비 부담을 덜고 지역 인재 유출을 막기 위한 「2026년 창원 새내기 지원금 사업」을 본격적으로 추진한다고 25일 밝혔다.
이번 사업은 대학 입학 초기 발생하는 각종 교재비와 생활비 부담을 시가 직접 분담해 주는 정책으로, 1인당 총 100만 원을 상·하반기 각 50만 원씩 나뉘어 지급된다.
창원 새내기 지원금은 2024년 첫 시행 이후 불과 2년 만에 창원의 대표 청년 정책으로 자리 잡았다. 지난해까지 총 4,000여 명 이상의 학생이 혜택을 입었으며, 실제 수혜자들의 반응도 뜨겁다.
