【충북 브레이크뉴스】김봉수 기자=충북 증평군 (재)증평군민장학회가 지역 내 형석고와 함께 추진하고 있는 명문학교 육성사업이 속속 성과를 거두고 있어 눈길을 끌고 있다.
(재)증평군민장학회 지원으로 2017년 서울대 사회학과에 입학한 박미경(30) 씨가 최근 발표된 제78회 치과의사 국가시험에 최종 합격했다.
박 씨는 형석고 두 번째 서울대 입학생으로 서울대 사회학과 졸업 후 2022년 서울대 치의학대학원에 진학해 이번 치과의사 국가시험에 합격한 것으로 알려졌다.
이에 앞서 2015년 형석고 최초로 서울대에 입학한 임지은(30) 씨는 지난 2022년 국가직 5급 공채에 합격해 현재 행정안전부에 파견 근무 중이다.
올해 입시에서도 박성훈(19) 군이 서울대 컴퓨터공학과에 합격해 10번째 서울대 합격생을 배출한 것을 비롯해 포항공대 2명, 고려대와 서강대 각각 1명이 합격하는 성과를 거두기도 했다.
이와 같이 형석고가 명문고로 도약할 수 있었던 것은 (재)증평군민장학회의 장학금 지원과 형석고의 다양한 학력 향상 및 맞춤형 진학지도 프로그램 등이 실질적 성과로 이어졌다는 분석이다.
특히 2023년에는 기존 4학급을 5학급으로 1학급 증설했으며, 2010년 56.1% 불과했던 지역 학생 비중이 지금은 97% 이상으로 늘어나는 등 지역교육 균형발전 모델을 제시했다는 평가다.
이재영 이사장은 “그동안 추진한 장학회의 명문학교 육성 사업이 구체적인 성과로 나타나고 있다”며 “지난해 교육부 선도지역으로 선정된 교육발전특구 사업과 연계해 증평을 교육을 통한 지역 발전 모델로 육성해 나갈 것”이라고 말했다.

Park Mi-kyung (30), who entered Seoul National University's Department of Sociology in 2017 with support from the Jeungpyeong County Scholarship Foundation, recently passed the 78th National Dental Licensing Examination.
Park is the second student from Hyungseok High School to enter Seoul National University. After graduating from Seoul National University's Department of Sociology, she entered Seoul National University's School of Dentistry in 2022 and passed the National Dental Licensing Examination.
Prior to this, Lim Ji-eun (30), the first student from Hyungseok High School to enter Seoul National University in 2015, passed the Level 5 National Civil Service Examination in 2022 and is currently working at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

Notably, the school has expanded its class size by one to five by 2023, from four to five. Furthermore, the proportion of local students has increased from 56.1% in 2010 to over 97%, demonstrating a model for balanced regional education development.
Chairman Lee Jae-young stated, "The scholarship foundation's prestigious school development initiatives are bearing tangible results.
