경기도 파주시가 기후변화 대응과 에너지 전환 분야에서 전국적인 모범 사례로 인정받으며 권위 있는 기후 시상식에서 수상의 영예를 안았다.
파주시는 지난 2월 25일 서울 여의도 국회의원회관에서 개최된 '2026 대한민국 녹색기후상' 시상식에서 자치부문 우수상을 수상했다고 밝혔다.
'대한민국 녹색기후상'은 국회기후변화포럼이 주관하는 국내 대표적인 기후·에너지 분야 종합 시상이다.

범국가적인 기후변화 대응과 에너지 전환 실현에 기여한 지방정부, 기업, 시민단체 등을 발굴·시상함으로써 사회 전반의 기후 행동을 독려하는 데 목적을 두고 있다.
이번 공모는 지난해 12월 말부터 올해 1월 말까지 총 7개 부문에 걸쳐 진행됐다.
파주시가 출전한 자치부문에는 전국 31개 지방정부가 응모해 치열한 경합을 벌였으며, 파주시는 엄격한 예심과 본심을 통과해 최종 수상 기관으로 선정됐다.
심사 과정에서 파주시가 특히 높은 평가를 받은 부분은 '실질적인 실행 체계 구축'이었다.
단순한 탄소 중립 선언에 그치지 않고, 제도와 조직, 그리고 구체적인 사업을 동시에 추진해 온 점이 주효했다.
주요 성과로는 먼저 행정 혁신 측면에서 전국 최초로 RE100 전담 조직을 신설하고 관련 조례를 제정한 점이 꼽혔다.

파주시 관계자는 "이번 수상은 공공 재생에너지 직접 PPA와 기업 RE100 지원 등 체계적인 정책 실행력을 인정받은 결과"라며, "앞으로도 재생에너지 전력 확보와 분산에너지 기반 확대는 물론, 수소 모빌리티 인프라 확충과 주민 참여형 사업을 강화해 에너지 선도 도시로서의 위상을 굳건히 하겠다"고 밝혔다.
