공직선거법은 후보자 간 실질적인 기회균등을 보장하고 과열 경쟁으로 인한 사회적 혼란과 경제적 손실을 방지하기 위해 선거일 전 90일부터 일정 행위를 제한 또는 금지하고 있다.
우선 3월 5일부터 선거일까지 인공지능(AI) 기술 등을 활용해 제작한 딥페이크 영상·음향을 이용한 선거운동이 전면 금지된다. AI 생성물임을 표시했는지 여부와 관계없이 선거운동 목적의 제작·편집·유포·상영·게시 행위는 할 수 없다.
또한 후보자가 되려는 사람과 관련 있는 저서의 출판기념회 개최도 금지된다. 타인이 저술한 경우라도 후보자와 관련성이 있는 경우에는 개최할 수 없다.

정당이나 후보자(후보자가 되려는 사람 포함)의 명의를 나타내는 저술·연예·연극·영화·사진 등 물품을 법에 규정되지 않은 방법으로 광고하는 행위도 금지된다. 후보자는 방송·신문·잡지 등 각종 광고에 출연할 수 없다.
이와 함께 선거에 입후보하려는 공무원과 지방공사·지방공단 상근 임원, 일정 요건의 언론인 등은 3월 5일까지 사직해야 한다. 다만 지방자치단체장이나 지방의회의원이 해당 지자체에 입후보하는 경우에는 사직 의무가 없다.
주민자치위원회 위원, 통·리·반장, 예비군 중대장급 이상 간부 등이 선거사무 관계자로 활동하려면 3월 5일까지 사직해야 하며, 주민자치위원은 선거일까지, 그 밖의 직위자는 선거일 후 6개월 이내에는 종전 직에 복직할 수 없다.
대구시선관위는 “공직선거법은 시기별로 제한·금지 행위를 달리 규정하고 있는 만큼 정당과 후보자, 유권자의 각별한 주의가 필요하다”고 강조했다. 선거 관련 문의나 위법행위 신고는 국번 없이 1390으로 하면 된다.
