홍 전 의원은 27일 “민주당이 불합리한 이유로 대구경북 행정통합법 처리를 미루고 있다”며 “즉시 법안을 처리해야 한다”고 촉구했다.

이날 대구를 찾은 정청래 민주당 대표의 발언에 대해서도 비판을 이어갔다. 홍 전 의원은 “정 대표가 국민의힘 국회의원들 때문에 법안이 통과되지 않았다며, 대구경북 시도민들에게 사과를 요구한 것은 적반하장”이라며 “이보다 더한 적반하장이 있겠냐”고 지적했다. 또 “추미애 위원장이 국회 본회의 운영 협조를 조건 삼아 행정통합법 처리를 미루고 있다”며 “결국 법안을 처리할 의지가 없는 것”이라고 주장했다.
홍 전 의원은 민주당의 지역 편중 국정 운영에 대해서도 문제를 제기했다. 그는 “대한민국은 광주·전남만의 나라가 아니다”며 “광주·전남에 예산만 몰아주고 국가기관, 각종 사업을 이전하면 다른 지역은 반드시 선거에서 심판할 것”이라고 말했다.
국민의힘을 향한 쓴소리도 이어졌다. 홍 전 의원은 “민주당의 행태도 문제지만, 국민의힘이 이 사안을 두고 자중지란에 빠진 모습이 더 큰 문제”라며 “민주당이 법안을 고의로 무산시켰는데도 국민의힘은 내부적으로 책임을 떠넘기고 적전분열 모습을 보이고 있다”고 꼬집었다. 최근 대구경북 의원들 사이 찬반투표가 진행된 데 대해서도 “당의 핵심 이슈조차 제대로 관리하지 못한다는 방증”이라고 비판했다.
이어 “지역 출신 현역 국회의원들이 대구시장 선거에만 몰두해 정작 국회에서 맡은 바 역할을 제대로 하지 못하고 있다”며 “지금 국회의원들이 할 일은 대구시장 출마가 아니라 당과 지역을 지키는 것”이라고 강조했다.
홍 전 의원은 “대구경북 행정통합은 지역의 미래가 걸린 중대한 과제”라고 거듭 강조하며, “민주당은 더 이상 책임을 회피하지 말고 즉각 법안 처리에 나서야 한다”고 밝혔다.
