더불어민주당 박범계 국회의원(대전 서구을)이 대전·충남 행정통합 추진을 촉구하며 삭발을 단행했다.
오는 6월 실시하는 제9회 전국동시지방선거에서 통합특별시장 출마를 선언한 박 의원은 통합 논의가 국회에서 답보 상태에 머물러 있는 만큼, 결단을 통해 통합의 필요성을 시급히 환기시킨 것으로 풀이된다.
박 의원은 28일 충남 천안 공주대학교 천안캠퍼스 체육관에서 열린 저서 '더 큰 통합, 압도적 성장' 출판기념회에서 “대전·충남 통합은 선택의 문제가 아니라 대한민국의 생존 전략”이라며 “지금 충청이 결단하지 않으면 더 큰 미래를 놓칠 수 있다”고 밝혔다.
이날 행사장에는 민주당 당직자와 충청권 각계 인사, 시민들이 대거 참석해 성황을 이뤘다.

그는 수도권 집중으로 인한 지역 불균형 문제를 지적하며 “충청이 더 이상 주변으로 남아서는 안 된다. 한계를 스스로 규정하는 것은 오랜 패배의식의 반복”이라고 강조했다.
이어 “대전의 연구개발 역량과 충남의 제조 산업을 연계하면 새로운 성장 엔진이 생긴다”며 “행정통합은 경쟁이 아닌 상생의 길”이라고 덧붙였다.

삭발 후 박 의원은 “충청은 더 이상 따라가는 지역이 아니라 스스로 미래를 설계하는 주체가 돼야 한다”며 “어떤 시련이 있더라도 통합을 포기하지 않겠다”고 재차 결의를 다졌다.
