김상동 경북교육감 출마예정자, 2·28 발상지 모교 경북고 기념탑 참배

【브레이크뉴스 경북】진예솔 기자=김상동 경북교육감 출마예정자(전 경북대학교 총장)가 2·28민주운동 66주년을 앞두고 모교인 경북고등학교를 찾아 2·28 발상지 기념탑에 헌화하고 참배했다. 

경북고 57회 동문인 김 출마예정자는 이날 헌화와 묵념을 통해 2·28정신을 이어받아 ‘학생이 주체가 되는 교육’을 실현하겠다는 의지를 밝혔다.

김 출마예정자는 “경북고는 우리나라 민주주의가 처음 움트기 시작한 곳”이라며 “57회 동문으로서 선배님들의 용기와 책임감을 항상 마음에 깊이 새긴다”고 말했다. 이어 “2·28정신은 학생들이 스스로 생각하고 행동한 자주성과 책임의 가치를 보여준다”며 “오늘날 교육 역시 질문과 토론, 자율성이 중심이 되어야 한다”고 강조했다.

이번 참배는 1960년 2월 28일, 학생들의 자발적 집단행동으로 시작된 2·28민주운동의 의미를 되새기고, 교육의 본질과 방향을 모교에서 다시금 다짐하는 자리였다. 당시 경북고 학생들이 외친 목소리는 3·15 마산의거와 4·19혁명으로 이어지면서 대한민국 민주주의 역사를 바꾸는 전환점이 됐다.

김 출마예정자는 “교육은 행정 편의를 위한 것이 아니라 학생의 성장과 시민적 역량을 키우는 과정이어야 한다”며 “학생이 주인이 되는 수업과 학교 문화로 경북교육의 새로운 방향을 분명히 세우겠다”고 말했다.

한편, 김 출마예정자는 최근 마숙자 전 김천교육장과 단일화를 마무리하고, 정책 중심의 공론을 바탕으로 경북교육 개혁 과제를 함께 추진하겠다는 입장을 밝혔다.
