【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=흥사단이 3·1절 107주년을 맞아 1일 서울을 비롯한 전국 각지에서 ‘시민과 함께하는 만세삼창’ 행사를 동시에 진행했다. 이번 행사는 전국 지부가 참여해 시민들로 하여금 독립선언의 정신을 함께 되새기고, 그 의미를 미래세대 교육과 동아시아 평화로 확장하겠다는 취지로 마련됐다.
이날 행사는 단순 기념식에서 벗어나 시민과 청소년이 직접 만세삼창과 독립선언문 낭독에 참여하는 방식으로 진행됐다. 흥사단 측은 "1919년 3월 1일 독립운동의 주역이 시민이었듯이, 오늘날 기념의 중심도 시민이 돼야 한다는 점에 착안해 이번 프로그램을 기획했다"고 밝혔다.

김전승 흥사단 이사장은 “1919년 3월 1일은 시민이 주권의 주체임을 온 세상에 선언한 날”이라며 “각 지역에서 울려 퍼진 만세삼창이 독립선언의 뜻을 다시금 일깨워주길 바라며, 미래세대 역시 이 정신을 올곧은 역사 인식으로 이어가길 기대한다”고 말했다.
흥사단은 앞으로도 역사교육과 민주시민교육을 지속적으로 강화하고, 일본 시민사회와 연대를 포함한 동아시아 평화 활동도 꾸준히 이어갈 방침이다. 단체는 “독립선언의 정신은 과거의 기억에만 머무르지 않는다. 오늘 우리가 지켜야 할 가치이자 내일로 연결될 소중한 약속”이라고 강조했다.

Heungsadan announced that it plans to continue its campaign to petition the National Assembly to change the name of March 1st Movement to Independence Declaration Day. Kim Jeon-seung, Chairman of Heungsadan, said, "March 1st, 1919, was the day when citizens declared to the world that they were the subjects of sovereignty." He added, "I hope that the three cheers resonating across each region will once again remind us of the meaning of the Declaration of Independence, and I hope that future generations will also carry on this spirit with a correct understanding of history."
The Heungsadan plans to continue strengthening historical and democratic citizenship education and to continue peace activities in East Asia, including solidarity with Japanese civil society. The organization emphasized, "The spirit of the Declaration of Independence is not confined to the memories of the past. It is a value we must uphold today and a precious promise that will continue into tomorrow."
