3일 오후 2시, 대전평생교육진흥원이 운영하는 학력인정 대전시립중·고등학교 입학식장에는 설렘과 긴장이 교차한 성인 학습자들의 표정이 가득했다.
중학교 75명, 고등학교 210명, 모두 285명의 신입생 상당수는 평균 나이 60세 안팎의 시민들로, 각자의 삶을 일단 멈추고 오래 미뤄둔 ‘배움의 숙제’를 다시 꺼내 들었다.
이번 제7회 입학식은 숫자로만 보면 평범한 학교 행사지만, 참석자의 사연을 들여다보면 의미가 달라진다. 어린 시절 가정형편, 생계, 시대적 상황으로 배움의 기회를 놓쳤던 이들이 ‘두 번째 학창시절’을 시작하는 자리이기 때문이다.
오랜 꿈이었던 교실 책상 앞에 앉은 신입생들은 서로를 향해 “이제부터 우리는 같은 반 친구”라며 웃음을 나누고, 눈시울을 붉히기도 했다.
