장종태 더불어민주당 의원(대전 서구갑)이 대전·충남 행정통합 무산의 책임을 이장우 대전시장과 김태흠 충남지사에게 돌리며 강도 높은 비판을 쏟아냈다.
장 의원은 4일 오전 대전시의회 기자실에서 기지회견을 열고 이번 사태를 ‘정치적 자해 행위’로 규정하고, 다가오는 6월 지방선거를 통해 두 단체장의 무능과 독선을 심판해야 한다고 목소리를 높였다.
장 의원은 이날 “대전·충남 행정통합이 풍전등화의 위기에 처했다”며 포문을 열었다.
그는 두 단체장이 2024년 11월 직접 통합을 선언하며 ‘메가시티 구상’을 대대적으로 홍보했음에도, 특별법 추진이 본격화되자 돌연 ‘재정·권한 부족’을 핑계로 제동을 걸었다고 지적했다.
이를 두고 장 의원은 “자신들의 정치적 입지가 흔들릴 것을 우려해 충청의 미래에 스스로 브레이크를 밟은 것”이라며 “비겁한 말 바꾸기가 결국 통합 무산이라는 파국을 초래했다”고 비판의 날을 세웠다.
특히 장 의원은 정부와 여당이 제시한 4년간 20조 원 규모의 재정 지원과 공공기관 우선 이전 등 파격적인 인센티브를 스스로 걷어찬 행태를 강하게 질타했다.
그는 “20조 원은 우리 아이들의 일자리이자 소멸 위기에 처한 지역의 생존 자금이었다”며 “법안을 보완하려는 노력 대신 비난만 일삼은 것은 명백한 정치 장난질”이라고 규정했다.
또한 광주·전남은 특별법을 통과시켰고 대구·경북 역시 미래를 설계하고 있는 점을 언급하며, 대전·충남만 ‘가장 먼저 시작해 가장 뒤처진 지역’이 되었다는 점을 꼬집었다.
장 의원은 이를 “단순한 정책 실패가 아니라 시민의 삶을 정치적 징검다리로 이용한 기만행위”라고 몰아붙였다.
장 의원은 이번 사태를 해결할 유일한 방법은 투표를 통한 심판이라고 강조하면서 “다가오는 6월 지방선거는 무책임한 정치 쇼 비즈니스에 종지부를 찍는 날이 되어야 한다”고 목청을 높였다.
