충남도가 아시아·태평양 지역 최대 민간 재생에너지 개발 기업인 싱가포르 뷔나그룹으로부터 1조 원 규모의 외자유치에 성공했다.
김태흠 충남지사가 이끄는 ’외자유치 및 해외시장 개척단‘이 현지에서 체결한 이번 투자유치는 충남도의 탄소중립경제 정책에 힘을 실을 전망이다.
김 지사는 6일 싱가포르 스위소텔 더 스탬포드 호텔에서 니틴 압테 뷔나그룹 대표, 정광진 한국지사 대표, 가세로 태안군수와 함께 투자 양해각서(MOU)를 체결했다. 협약에 따라 뷔나그룹은 2030년까지 태안을 비롯한 충남 지역에 해상풍력 등 재생에너지 발전단지를 조성하기 위해 1조 원을 투입한다.
뷔나그룹은 싱가포르 본사를 둔 글로벌 에너지 기업으로, 아시아·태평양 지역에서 재생에너지 개발과 운영을 전문으로 한다. 2018년 한국 시장에 진입한 이래 일본, 호주, 인도 등에서 총 19GW 규모의 해상풍력 프로젝트를 추진해온 바 있다.
충남에 조성될 해상풍력단지는 연간 1.67테라와트시(TWh)의 전력을 생산할 수 있는 규모로, 약 74만 톤의 온실가스를 감축하는 효과가 기대된다. 특히 뷔나그룹은 자회사인 ‘뷔나넥서스’를 통해 재생에너지와 데이터센터를 결합한 친환경 에너지 인프라 전략도 병행할 방침이다.
충남도에 따르면 김태흠 지사는 협약식에서 “충남은 국내 석탄화력발전소의 절반이 밀집해 있는 만큼 탄소중립 전환의 책임이 크다”며 “뷔나그룹의 기술력과 충남의 해상풍력 자원이 결합하면 미래 에너지 산업의 핵심 경쟁력을 확보할 수 있을 것”이라고 밝히고, “해상풍력법 시행에 맞춰 제도·행정적 지원을 아끼지 않겠다”고 덧붙였다.
니틴 압테 뷔나그룹 대표는 “충남 지역에 30만 가구에 전력을 공급할 수 있는 재생에너지 설비를 구축할 계획”이라며 “지속가능한 발전과 지역 경제 활성화에 이바지하겠다”고 말했다.
이번 외자유치는 충남도의 해상풍력 중심 탄소중립 전략에 속도를 더하고, 지역 내 에너지·데이터 산업의 새로운 성장 축을 마련할 계기가 될 전망이다.
