경주시는 음식물자원화시설에서 생산되는 단미사료의 유상 판매를 재추진해 톤당 13만7,500원(kg당 137.5원)에 단가계약을 체결했으며, 이를 통해 2026년부터 연간 약 3억4,300만 원의 세입이 발생할 것으로 기대된다고 9일 밝혔다.
경주시 음식물자원화시설은 2009년 12월 가동을 시작해 매년 평균 2,500톤 규모의 단미사료를 생산하고 있다. 가동 초기에는 유상 판매를 통해 연간 약 7,500만 원의 수입을 올렸으나, 코로나19 이후 사회·경제적 여건 변화로 단미사료 유상 매입 수요가 감소하면서 무상 공급 방식으로 전환된 바 있다.
그러나 최근 단미사료 물량 확보 경쟁이 심화되고 거래 단가가 상승하는 등 시장 여건이 개선되면서 시는 올해 초 유상 판매 재추진에 나섰다.
경주시는 전국 단미사료 거래 동향에 대한 자체 시장 조사를 실시해 판매 단가를 산정했으며, 지난 2월 입찰을 통해 단가계약을 체결했다. 이번 계약 단가는 2025년 기준 전국 평균 거래 단가인 kg당 55.8원보다 약 2.5배 높은 수준이다.
이번 유상 판매 전환으로 연간 판매 수입이 발생하면서 위탁 운영비 부담을 줄이고 생산원가 일부 회수는 물론 보관·관리비 등 간접비용 절감 효과도 기대되고 있다.
또 음식물류 폐기물을 자원으로 재활용해 안정적인 수익을 창출하는 자원순환 행정 모델을 구축했다는 점에서도 의미가 크다는 평가다.
주낙영 경주시장은 “시장 변화에 능동적으로 대응해 음식물 폐기물을 자원으로 전환하고 공공자원의 가치를 높였다”며 “앞으로 음식물자원화시설뿐 아니라 재활용선별시설과 자원회수시설 전반의 운영 효율성과 환경성을 함께 높여 나가겠다”고 말했다.
