【브레이크뉴스 문경】이성현 기자=오는 3월 11일부터 17일까지 7일간 문경실내체육관에서 '회장기 전국장사 씨름대회'가 개최된다.

9일 문경시에 따르면 대한씨름협회가 주최하고 문경시씨름협회와 문경시체육회가 주관하는 이번 대회는 초등부, 중등부, 고등부, 대학부, 남자일반부, 여자부 등으로 나뉘어 진행된다. 전국에서 약 1,500여 명의 씨름 선수와 대회 관계자들이 참가해 열띤 승부를 펼칠 예정이다.
특히 12일부터 14일까지 3일간 매일 오후 4시부터 6시 30분까지 중등부 단체 및 개인전 결승, 초등부 단체 및 개인전 결승, 대학부 단체전 결승 등이 MBC SPORTS+를 통해 생중계된다.
대회 관계자들은 이번 대회를 통해 민족 전통 스포츠인 씨름을 널리 알리고 종목 저변 확대의 계기가 될 것으로 기대하고 있다. 또한 씨름인 간 결속을 다지고 우수 인재를 발굴하는 의미 있는 자리가 될 것이라고 전했다.
한편 문경시는 2023년 11월 문경천하장사씨름장을 준공하며 씨름 전지훈련의 최적지로 입지를 넓혀가고 있다.
신현국 문경시장은 “이번 대회에서 선수들이 그동안 갈고닦은 기량을 마음껏 발휘해 좋은 성과를 거두길 바란다”며 “봄이 다가오고 있지만 아직 쌀쌀한 날씨인 만큼 선수들이 건강에 유의하며 안전하게 경기를 치르길 바란다”고 말했다.

Meanwhile, Mungyeong City is expanding its position as an optimal training ground for ssireum with the completion of the Mungyeong Cheonha Jangsa Ssireum Stadium in November 2023.
Mayor Shin Hyun-guk of Mungyeong City said, "I hope the athletes will fully demonstrate their honed skills and achieve excellent results in this competition." He added, "Spring is approaching, but the weather is still chilly. I hope the athletes will take care of their health and compete safely."
