국민의힘 충남도당이 오는 6월 3일 실시하는 제9회 전국동시지방선거를 앞두고 실시한 충남지역 기초단체장 공직후보자 공모 결과, 충남 15개 시·군에서 총 42명이 접수를 마쳤다고 밝혔다.
충남도당에 따르면 지난 3월 5일부터 8일까지 나흘간 온라인을 통해 진행된 이번 공모에는 중앙당 추천 관할인 천안시 기초단체장 후보자를 포함해 총 42명의 인사가 출마 의사를 밝히며 평균 2.8대 1의 경쟁률을 기록했다.
충남도당 공천관리위원회는 이번 공모 결과를 바탕으로 본격적인 심사 궤도에 진입한다. 오는 3월 10일 열리는 1차 회의를 시작으로 공천 신청자들에 대한 서류 심사와 면접, 경선 절차를 차례로 밟을 계획이다.
시군별 공천신청 현황을 보면 계룡시장 4명, 공주시장 1명, 금산군수 3명, 논산시장 1명, 당진시장 2명, 보령시장 6명, 부여군수 3명, 서산시장 1명, 서천군수 3명, 아산시장 2명, 예산군수 3명, 청양군수 2명, 태안군수 4명, 홍성군수 4명, 천안시장 3명이 등록했다.
충남도당 관계자는 "공정하고 객관적인 심사 기준을 적용해 도민의 눈높이에 맞는 최적의 후보를 엄선할 것"이라며 "검증된 인물을 최종 후보자로 추천해 지방선거 승리의 발판을 마련하겠다"는 의지를 내비쳤다.
본격적인 공천 국면이 시작됨에 따라 각 시·군별 상세 대진표와 면접 일정 등 향후 심사 과정에 지역 정가의 이목이 쏠리고 있다.
