권선택 전 대전시장이 더불어민주당 복당 후 첫 기자간담회에서 차기 지방선거 불출마를 선언한 가운데, 유력 주자로 거론되는 박범계 의원의 시장 도전에 대한 심경을 내비치면서 주목을 받았다.

권 전 시장은 11일 오전 대전시의회 기자실에서 가진 기자간담회에서 당내 광역단체장에 출마를 선언한 주요 후보군에 대한 평가를 이어가던 중 박범계 의원을 향해 "4선 국회의원에 장관까지 지낸 대전의 정치 거목"이라고 치켜세웠다. 

특히 박 의원을 "충청대망론이 나온다면 현재로서 가장 근접한 인물"로 규정하며, 선수를 채운다면 국회의장을 할 수 있는 정치인 이라면서 박  의원의 정치적 체급을 높게 평가했다.

그러면서 권 전 시장은 박 의원의 시장 출마에 대해서는 아쉬움을 숨기지 않았다.
