김종천 전 대전광역시의회 의장이 대전·충남 통합의 당위성을 알리고 정치권의 전향적인 태도 변화를 촉구하며 이어온 단식 농성을 11일 마무리했다.
김 전 의장은 단식을 마치는 소회와 함께 지역 통합을 가로막는 세력을 규탄하는 대시민 메시지를 발표하며 향후 투쟁 의지를 다졌다.
김 전 의장은 이번 농성이 당리당략에 매몰되어 지역 발전의 ‘골든타임’을 놓치고 있는 현실에 대한 절박함에서 시작됐음을 강조했다.
그는 “지난 4일 삭발을 통해 간절히 호소했음에도 국민의힘 소속 시장과 도지사, 지도부가 ‘반대를 위한 반대’만을 일삼고 있다”며 “지역의 미래가 걸린 20조 원 규모의 경제적 기회를 걷어찬 행태는 무책임의 극치”라고 직격했다.
특히 대구·경북 통합과의 형평성 문제를 제기하며 여권의 ‘이중잣대’를 강하게 비판했다. 김 전 의장은 “저들은 대구·경북 통합만 수용하라며 생떼를 부리고, 대전시장과 충남지사는 동의를 얻지 못했다는 핑계로 책임을 회피하고 있다”며 이를 지역 발전을 무산시키는 ‘회피 행정’으로 규정했다.
단식을 마친 김 전 의장은 육체적 쇠약함에도 불구하고 통합에 대한 의지는 더욱 확고해졌음을 내비쳤다.
그는 “나 하나의 단식이 당장 상황을 바꾸지 못하더라도, 하나가 열이 되고 백이 되는 기적이 일어날 것을 믿는다”며 “오늘의 단식은 끝이 아니라 대전·충남의 짓밟힌 미래를 되살리는 ‘기적의 횃불’이 될 것”이라고 역설했다.
