구미시는 국토교통부가 주관하는 ‘2026년 드론실증도시 구축사업’ 공모에 최종 선정됐다고 밝혔다. 이와 함께 ‘2026년 드론 상용화 지원사업’에도 지역 기업 2곳이 선정되면서 드론산업 육성과 상용화 사업이 본격 추진될 전망이다.
‘드론실증도시 구축사업’은 지역 특성에 맞는 드론 활용 모델을 발굴하고 실제 도심 환경에서 실증을 지원하는 사업이다. 구미시는 ‘K-드론배송 상용화’ 분야에 선정돼 13일 대전에서 업무협약식과 착수보고회를 가질 예정이다.
주요 사업으로는 낙동강체육공원과 에코랜드 이용객을 대상으로 제조 음식과 간편 편의물품을 배송하는 드론 서비스와 국가산업단지 간 산업 물류 배송 실증이 추진된다. 이를 위해 관련 기업과 컨소시엄을 구성해 드론배송 거점 구축과 배송 실증, 서비스 검증 등을 단계적으로 진행할 계획이다.
또한 드론기업을 지원하는 ‘드론 상용화 지원사업’에는 구미 지역 기업인 볼로랜드와 다빈치랩스가 각각 ‘5대 완성체 상용 개발’과 ‘핵심기술 상용화’ 분야에 선정됐다. 두 기업은 농업용 국산 드론 개발·생산과 관성센서 등 항재밍 부품 제조를 통해 지역 드론산업 경쟁력 강화에 나설 예정이다.
아울러 경운대학교가 드론 소부장 산업 육성과 지역 인재 양성을 위한 ‘경북형 글로컬대학’ 항공·방산 전략산업 중점대학으로 선정되면서 향후 구미시 드론산업 발전에도 긍정적인 효과가 기대된다.
한편 구미시는 드론특별자유화구역 사업에 2023년 지정에 이어 2025년에도 연속 지정되면서 드론 관련 인프라 구축과 국가 중요시설 대드론 통합방호체계 구축 등 다양한 드론산업 정책을 추진해 왔다.
김장호 구미시장은 “이번 드론실증도시 구축사업과 드론 상용화 지원사업 선정은 지역 드론산업 성장의 중요한 전환점이 될 것”이라며 “시민이 체감할 수 있는 드론 활용 모델을 지속적으로 개발해 미래 드론산업 선도도시로 도약할 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
