미래 교육을 위한 대전시민 교육감 단일화 시민회의(이하 시민회의)가 맹수석 예비후보의 단일화 불참 선언과 비판 성명에 대해 "사실관계를 왜곡해 본인의 불참을 정당화하려는 소모적인 발목잡기"라며 강하게 반박하고 나섰다.
시민회의는 12일 성명을 통해 맹 후보가 제기한 '정보 공유 부재' 주장을 조목조목 반박했다.
시민회의에 따르면 맹 후보는 지난 1월 13일 창립총회에 직접 참석해 단일화 방식이 명시된 정관을 확인했으며, 2월 2일에는 캠프 관계자와 대면 협의를 진행했다.
특히 2월 14일에는 후보자 전원에게 단일화 일정과 관련 서류를 공식 발송하는 등 수차례 대면 협의와 문서 전달이 이뤄졌다는 점을 강조했다.
맹 후보가 단일화 중단의 명분으로 내세운 '대전·충남 행정통합 논의'에 대해서도 날 선 비판이 이어졌다.
시민회의는 "행정통합은 현재까지도 불확실한 사안"이라며 "이를 이유로 교육자치의 시급성과 시민과의 약속을 외면하는 것은 일방적인 주장일 뿐"이라고 일축했다.
또한 맹 후보가 '독소조항'이라고 주장한 서약서와 관련해서는 특정 후보를 위한 장치가 아니라 민주적 절차에 대한 결과를 존중하겠다는 최소한의 약속임을 분명히 했다.
이미 성광진 후보와 강재구 후보가 해당 원칙에 동의하고 등록을 마친 상황에서, 개인의 선호와 다르다는 이유로 공동의 규칙을 부정하는 것은 숙의민주주의 정신에 부합하지 않는다는 지적이다.
무엇보다 시민회의는 이번 단일화 과정이 특정 후보를 위한 것이라는 폄훼에 대해 강한 유감을 표명했다.
현재 시민회의에는 교육, 여성, 장애인, 노동 등 대전 각계를 대표하는 66개 단체가 참여하고 있으며, 수많은 시민이 유료 참여단에 자발적으로 가입하고 있다는 점을 근거로 제시했다.
시민회의는 "시민들이 참여하는 단일화는 개인의 정치적 계산이 아니라 대전 교육을 바로 세우라는 시민의 엄중한 명령"이라며 "맹 후보는 더 이상의 명분 없는 방해 행위를 중단하고 66개 시민단체와 시민들 앞에 책임 있는 태도를 보여야 한다"고 촉구했다.

With candidates Seong Gwang-jin and Kang Jae-gu already agreeing to these principles and registering, the CDM argued that rejecting common rules simply because of differences in personal preferences violates the spirit of deliberative democracy.
Above all, CDM expressed strong regret over the disparaging remarks that the unification process was being conducted solely for the benefit of a specific candidate.
The Citizens' Coalition currently includes 66 organizations representing various sectors of Daejeon, including education, women's rights, the disabled, and labor. They cited the fact that numerous citizens have voluntarily joined the paid participation group as evidence.
The Citizens' Coalition stated, "Unification through citizen participation is not a matter of individual political calculation, but a stern command from citizens to rectify Daejeon's education system." They urged, "Candidate Maeng must cease his unjustified obstruction and demonstrate a responsible attitude toward the 66 civic groups and citizens."
