더불어민주당 대전광역시당이 대전·충남 행정통합의 절박함을 알리기 위해 이어온 삭발 및 단식 천막농성을 12일 마무리하며, 향후 국회 입법과 지역 논의를 주도하는 ‘실무형 투쟁’으로의 전환을 선언했다.
민주당 대전시당은 이날 발표한 기자회견문을 통해 그동안 혹독한 날씨 속에서도 농성에 동참해 준 시·도민들에게 감사를 표하며, 이번 농성이 ‘수도권 일극 체제 타파’와 ‘지방소멸 저지’라는 시대적 소명에서 비롯되었음을 강조했다.
대전시당은 “청년 유출과 지역 경제 침체라는 벼랑 끝에서 대전의 과학기술 역량과 충남의 제조 기반이 결합하는 것은 대한민국을 견인할 새로운 성장 엔진을 만드는 일”이라며, “글로벌 산업 구조가 재편되는 시기에 두 지역의 통합은 단순한 행정구역 개편을 넘어선 국가 전략적 과제”라고 정의했다.
