허태정 전 대전시장 "대전·충남 행정통합 의지 멈추지 않을 것”

더불어민주당 소속으로 대전시장 출마를 선언한 허태정 전 대전시장이 12일, 대전·충남 행정통합 촉구를 위해 진행했던 단식 천막농성을 종료에 대한 소회를 밝혔다.

허 전 시장은 이날 자신의 SNS를 통해 “대전시당 당원 동지들과 함께한 2주간의 단식 천막농성을 마무리한다”며 “행정통합은 대전과 충남의 미래를 좌우할 중차대한 사안”이라고 강조했다.

그는 “당리당략으로 통합을 가로막는 국민의힘은 시민께 사과하고 통합의 길로 나서야 한다”며 “강한 의지로 통합을 촉구했지만 시민들께 성과를 보여드리지 못해 송구하다”고는 마음을 전했다.

이어 “칼바람이 부는 날씨에도 몸을 상하면서 단식과 삭발 투쟁에 함께해주신 당원 동지들께 머리 숙여 감사드린다”며 “행정통합 논의의 불씨가 다소 약해진 상황이지만 우리의 노력이 여기서 멈추지 않을 것”이라고 다짐했다.

앞서 허태정 전 시장을 포함한 민주당 대전시당 당원과 지방선거 출마 예정자들은 지난달 말부터 대전시청 북문 앞 천막에서 대전·충남 행정통합 추진을 촉구하며 단식 농성과 릴레이 삭발 투쟁을 이어왔다. 

이번 농성 종료를 계기로 허 전 시장은 향후 지역 여론과 정치권을 상대로 통합 추진과 관련된 여론 확산에 나설 것으로 보인다.

Former Mayor Heo Tae-jeong, along with members of the Daejeon City Democratic Party and prospective local election candidates, have been staging a hunger strike and relaying their heads-shaving protests since late last month in a tent in front of the north gate of Daejeon City Hall, calling for the administrative integration of Daejeon and South Chungcheong Province.

With the end of this sit-in, former Mayor Heo is expected to use the opportunity to raise public opinion on the integration initiative among local and political circles.
