DGIST(총장 이건우) 융합인재교육원은 도원고등학교와 함지고등학교와 업무협약(MOU)을 체결하고 지역 과학 인재 발굴과 미래 융합형 인재 육성을 위한 공동 교육 협력을 추진한다고 밝혔다.
이번 협약은 대학의 연구·교육 역량과 공립 과학중점고의 현장 교육 경험을 결합해 학생들에게 심화된 연구 경험과 실질적인 과학 탐구 기회를 제공하기 위해 마련됐다. 이를 통해 미래 지향적인 교육 환경을 조성하고 지역 우수 인재를 발굴·육성해 국가와 지역사회 발전에 기여한다는 계획이다.
협약에 따라 DGIST와 양 고등학교는 ▲과학중점학교 운영 및 과학 인재 양성을 위한 공동 연구 프로젝트 ▲과학 연구 멘토링 프로그램 운영 ▲과학 관련 교육 및 특강 프로그램 개설과 강사 지원 ▲기타 상호 발전을 위한 협력 사업 등을 추진할 예정이다.
특히 DGIST는 이번 협약을 계기로 고교 탐구동아리 프로그램을 본격 운영한다. 오는 3월부터 학생들은 학기 중 동아리 활동을 통해 최신 연구 내용을 심화 학습하고, 방학 기간에는 DGIST 교수진과 함께 자신의 진로에 맞춘 R/E(Research & Education) 과정을 수행하며 문제 해결과 탐구 역량을 강화하게 된다.
DGIST 융합인재교육원 석창원 원장은 “지역 공립 과학중점고와의 긴밀한 교육 협력을 통해 학생들이 실제적인 과학 탐구를 경험할 수 있도록 지원하겠다”며 “연구중심대학인 DGIST의 교육 역량을 활용해 창의적이고 융합적인 지역 인재 양성에 힘쓰겠다”고 말했다.
함지고등학교 이찬희 교장은 “세계적 수준의 연구기관인 DGIST와 과학 교육 프로그램을 공동 운영하게 돼 매우 뜻깊다”며 “학생들이 대학 수준의 연구 환경을 경험하고 미래 과학자로 성장하는 기반이 될 것으로 기대한다”고 밝혔다.
한편 DGIST는 지역사회와 연계한 과학 교육 확대를 통해 미래 과학기술 및 AI 인재 양성에 기여하고 있으며, 지속적인 교육 협력과 탐구 프로그램 개발을 통해 지역 중심의 융합 인재 양성 거점 역할을 강화해 나갈 계획이다.

The Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST) has partnered with science-focused high schools in the Daegu region to engage in educational cooperation aimed at cultivating future science talent.
DGIST (President Lee Geon-woo) announced that its Convergence Talent Education Center has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Dowon High School and Hamji High School to promote joint educational cooperation aimed at discovering local science talent and fostering future convergence-oriented individuals.
This agreement was established to combine the university's research and educational capabilities with the field education experience of public science-focused high schools, providing students with in-depth research experiences and opportunities for practical scientific inquiry. Through this, the plan is to create a future-oriented educational environment, discover and nurture outstanding local talent, and contribute to the development of the nation and the local community.
Under the agreement, DGIST and the two high schools plan to pursue the following: joint research projects for the operation of science-focused schools and the cultivation of scientific talent; the operation of science research mentoring programs; the establishment of science-related education and special lecture programs and the provision of instructors; and other cooperative projects for mutual development.
In particular, DGIST will launch a high school research club program in earnest following this agreement. Starting this coming March, students will engage in in-depth study of the latest research through club activities during the semester, and during vacations, they will strengthen their problem-solving and inquiry capabilities by conducting R/E (Research & Education) courses tailored to their career paths alongside DGIST faculty.
Seok Chang-won, Director of the DGIST Convergence Talent Education Center, stated, "We will support students in experiencing practical scientific inquiry through close educational cooperation with local public science-focused high schools," adding, "We will strive to foster creative and convergent local talent by leveraging the educational capabilities of DGIST, a research-oriented university."
Lee Chan-hee, Principal of Hamji High School, stated, “It is very meaningful to jointly operate a science education program with DGIST, a world-class research institution,” adding, “We expect this to serve as a foundation for students to experience a university-level research environment and grow into future scientists.”
Meanwhile, DGIST is contributing to the cultivation of future science and technology and AI talents by expanding science education in conjunction with the local community, and plans to strengthen its role as a hub for fostering region-centered convergence talents through continuous educational cooperation and the development of inquiry programs.
