서울대치과병원 ‘찾아가는 치과 진료소’, 구미서 의료봉사 활동 성료

【브레이크뉴스 구미】이성현 기자=구자근 국민의힘 국회의원(구미시갑)은 서울대학교 치과병원의 공공의료 봉사활동인 ‘찾아가는 치과 진료소’가 지난 12~13일 구미에서 진행돼 성공적으로 마무리됐다고 밝혔다.

서울대학교 치과병원은 지난해 처음으로 구미를 방문해 취약계층을 대상으로 무료 치과 진료를 실시했다. 당시 치과의사 7명과 치위생사, 간호조무사 등 20여 명의 의료진이 참여해 지역 취약계층 120명을 대상으로 충치 및 잇몸 치료, 발치, 구강관리 교육 등 치과 진료 봉사를 펼치며 큰 호응을 얻었다.

올해는 의료봉사단 14명이 구미 혜당학교를 찾아 특수학교 재학생 약 50명을 대상으로 구강검진과 스케일링, 충치 치료 등 치과 진료 봉사활동을 진행했다. 평소 치과 진료 접근이 쉽지 않은 특수학교 학생들에게 실질적인 의료 지원이 이뤄지며 의미 있는 공공의료 활동으로 평가받고 있다.

구자근 의원은 국회 예산결산특별위원회 간사로 활동하던 당시 서울대치과병원과 발달장애인 등 취약계층 치과 진료 지원 예산 확대를 논의하며 교류를 이어왔고, 이를 계기로 구미 지역의 의료 취약계층 현실을 전달하며 봉사활동을 요청해 이번 방문이 성사된 것으로 알려졌다.

특히 구미 지역에는 독거노인과 기초생활수급자, 거동이 불편한 환자 등 치과 치료가 필요함에도 비용 부담과 의료 접근성 문제로 치료를 미루는 사례가 많아 공공의료 차원의 지원 필요성이 지속적으로 제기돼 왔다. 이번 찾아가는 치과 진료소 운영을 통해 의료 사각지대에 놓인 지역 주민과 학생들에게 전문적인 치과 진료 서비스를 제공하며 실질적인 도움을 줬다는 평가가 나온다.

구자근 의원은 “어려운 지역 상황에 공감하고 기꺼이 봉사활동에 나서준 서울대학교 치과병원 의료진과 관계자들에게 감사드린다”며 “앞으로도 지역 의료 사각지대를 해소하고 취약계층에 도움이 될 수 있도록 공공의료 협력 사업을 지속적으로 확대해 나가겠다”고 말했다.

In particular, the need for public healthcare support has been continuously raised in the Gumi region, where there are many cases of elderly people living alone, recipients of basic livelihood support, and patients with mobility issues delaying dental treatment due to financial burdens and lack of access to medical care, despite needing treatment. It is being evaluated that the operation of this mobile dental clinic provided practical assistance by offering professional dental care services to local residents and students in medical blind spots.

Representative Koo Ja-keun stated, "I am grateful to the medical staff and officials of Seoul National University Dental Hospital for empathizing with the difficult local situation and willingly stepping forward to volunteer," adding, "I will continue to expand public healthcare cooperation projects to resolve medical blind spots in the region and help vulnerable groups."
